I've heard about "battleborn" here. It was apparently published like 30 years ago in the first ish of spacegamer/fantasygamer.
Anyone know about it? I see it wasn't written by SJ but by some other people. is it available anywhere besides SJG?
http://www.spacegamer.com/spacegamer/H04.asp is apparently the "complete" game, Era Ten (http://rpggeek.com/rpgsetting/3644/era-ten). A subset was published as BB in SG/FG: http://www.spacegamer.com/spacegamer/history.asp So was a separate module called Guardians of Sol.
I've got the magazine issues; I think I saw the whole game on eBay once.
The "complete" game came first and consisted not only of character creation/combat rules (BB, basically), but also systems for generating scenarios and encounters. In this it mirrored the structure of Crimson Cutlass, which (based on reading) is pretty nifty.
BTW, none of this has anything to with SJG. Better Games bought SG/FG from SJG and in fact they still apparently own the TM, although nowadays as you can see it's a website, not a magazine.

Thanks. I guess now it would just be useful as a background and scenario generator.
Space Gamer was purchased by "Red" Rahm and "Conrad" Hillmer who were Los Angeles locals and very popular in the California convention scene. Their games - Crimson Cutlass, Barony and Battleborn - all were con staples and the fandom spread to mid-state and Bay Area cons as well.
Unfortunately, their ideas were too ahead of their time and too ahead of their budget for the gaming scene of the early 90s. Conrad moved to New Orleans and the rumor mills says he bought some massive Southern mansion and had it refurbished to its pre-Civil War splendor. Red left Hollywood F/X for the lure of Electronic Arts. Sadly, their Space Gamer website never launched and both awesome dudes are out of the RPG scene.
I've played Battleborn for decades and I GM it and so do a few buddies. If you have any questions about it, ask away!
