…Ennie voting is open
http://www.ennie-awards.com/vote/2015/
If you care, vote for things you like.
If you don't, do not.
Congrats on the nominations! Votes submitted.
Awards are stupid but the recognition that comes along with them can sometimes turn into good resources.
I voted as well.
But do you have theRPGsite Product of Distinction Award?
That's the one to strive for!
I don't even know 90% of those products  The blogs and podcast categories seem especially narrowly chosen.
Still, gave my votes for 'Red and Pleasant Land' and some D&D products. And 'Mutant'
I Voted. :-)
Quote from: Spinachcat;840398But do you have theRPGsite Product of Distinction Award?

As the graphic creator of said award, I may be biased, but it
WILL look snazzy on the cover of your product. I guarantee it or your money back.
Of course, Arrows of Indra nor Dark Albion nor Fantastic Heroes and Witchery nor Red and Pleasant land sport this award lending to my CRUSHING disappointment this didn't take off better. :P

It would not be apropos for me to award myself this prestigious award. That's the kind of thing the Indie RPG Awards and the judges at the ENnies do.
Quote from: RPGPundit;840866It would not be apropos for me to award myself this prestigious award. That's the kind of thing the Indie RPG Awards and the judges at the ENnies do.
Fair enough. I believe they DESERVE the award, but I appreciate your integrity.
Done.
Voted for A Red & Pleasant Lands because:
a) It's a gorgeous book
and
b) I haven't read/seen any of the other stuff nominated.
But even if I had, I'm having a hard time imagining, that they can really match AR&PL in pure blood red purdy.
Quote from: trechriron;840891Fair enough. I believe they DESERVE the award, but I appreciate your integrity.
Of course, I'd note that if any of the publishers of my games wanted to present themselves for this prestigious award, I certainly wouldn't object.
If nothing else, the epic butt-hurt of some of the usual suspects that it's been nominated at all is amusing to see. Presuming you haven't been photo-shopping the tweets on your blog. ;)
The Tweets are hysterical!
If you crazy kids haven't see ZakS's blog DnDwithPornstars recently, he's using the butthurt tweets as advertising for the ENnie voting.
Nice to be able to add Cam Banks to the no-fly list. How did I not find out before now that he's such a creep?
Ah, the Pseudo-Activists. Always reliable for generating fame and profit for the exact things they claim to despise.
Quote from: Paraguybrarian;841535Nice to be able to add Cam Banks to the no-fly list. How did I not find out before now that he's such a creep?
Cam, like several other game designers who are part of that clique, are genuinely people that I like. But social media has the potential to make even one's closest friends into crazed clowns. Not an excuse, at all, but a fact that I have to remind myself constantly or else I would have very few friends because of shit said on the Internet.
That puts me in an awkward spot, for sure: I mean, I have no Web presence worth anything at all so neither side would give any fucks as to whether I'm gonna hop on board due to rhetoric like "you're either with us or against us".
So as to keep pleasant relationships with as many possible future collaborators as possible, I keep my dumb, stupid mouth shut about these matters. Even this post is attempting to be super neutral. I don't mind being called a coward: in real life, outside of the Internet wars, I'm doing just fine.
All that to say that I think Twitter, Facebook and Google+ are fucking horrible for settling clique wars. Things will only get worse before they get better.
Quote from: Necrozius;841870All that to say that I think Twitter, Facebook and Google+ are fucking horrible for settling clique wars. Things will only get worse before they get better.
Clique wars don't get settled. Everyone just retreats to their bubble to bitch before the next tempest in a teapot.
I am increasingly finding that the amount of time needed to sift through the noise of social media to find the valuable bits is time far better spent in other pursuits. I had some hopes for G+, but I'm not even finding the ROI on that time to be useful.

I heard there was heckling and a big walkout. True? False? Exaggeration? Wish I could have been there to see it. It sounds like it was priceless.
Anyway, congrats, Zak. You earned it with a very beautiful, exquisitely written little red book.

where did you hear that?
Quote from: BedrockBrendan;845649where did you hear that?
Twitter. It was hard to make out what was real vs. what was wishful thinking due to Twitter's terrible signal-to-noise ratio.

I regret that I could only afford the PDF when I bought RPL. Though I haven't used it in a game like I did with Vornheim, it's still a great read, full of crazy ideas.
Nobody in the hall noticed but Cam Banks and his conservative gamer squad walked out after I won Best Writing.
Then I won three more awards.
Awards are still stupid. Buy a copy, kids, it's a book made of Drama Club tears.

Not really: Adam Jury? People who supported them on Twitter included Fred Hicks, Daniel Solis and all the usual suspects who've been harassing us for the last year and 24 days.
EDIT:
Grognards.txt is linking this thread trying to figure out who walked out and (as usual) rather than just asking me, they ask each other and so they get random fucked-up information.
So, who was there: Cam Banks. Adam Jury, Lyndsay Peters / GeekyLyndsay, Lastnora, prof_banks (jess banks) and, I think, Logan Bonner.
Also: RPGpundit is an ass. Please do not associate me with his edition-warring, trolling bs.

I don't buy Hicks' shit anyway--I wonder if he gets any benefit out of my zero dollar pay what you wants? Opinions, anyone?
I haven't even heard of the others.
If voting for Red and Pleasant Land made me a Nazi, then where the fuck is my snazzy uniform, P08 Luger and MP40?
(On a related note, I can't wait to see the freak outs when the Hugos are announced.)
It was a half-dozen people from what I was told, and then they literally went to a bar to drown their sorrows. Hilarious.
theRPGsite officially congratulates Zak S., not on the pointless ENnies, but on the Making Assholes Cry award, which is so much more meaningful and fulfilling.
Awards are stupid but I'm still glad Zak won these... and that Contessa got some recognition as well.
It's well deserved as the book is excellent.

Hahaha very true! Also 2nded! :D
Congratulations on your stupid awards!
Congratulations Zak. That was well deserved.
Aside: I have no idea how WotC swept best art (Cover and Interior). Better sales overall, plus the real vote being split between a couple of strong contenders?
Congratulations! The book is a gem, art and content wise.
Congratulations!
Well deserved indeed. Red and Pleasant Land is an awesome book.
When I first read it I thought "This is how supplements should be done", with a setting, house rules for that setting, monsters, plot hooks, random tables, a new class, great art, etc.
Congrats to the winners!
Congratulations, A Red & Pleasant Land really was last year's best RPG book.
So what about that remake of Warhammer's Chaos books?
Quote from: Frey;845833So what about that remake of Warhammer's Chaos books?
Hell.Yes.
If Zak decides to work on another book, let it be this.
Quote from: Frey;845833So what about that remake of Warhammer's Chaos books?

Even if it was for Zweihander! I am hoping the Zweihander dude actually markets the book offline when its done.

Awards for RPGs are indeed stupid.
Shit... I just got the news recently and posted who won in that thread. Sorry people and again ZakS congrats on a book well made.
Awards may indeed be stupid, but this is glorious!
Quote from: 3rik;845972Awards may indeed be stupid, but this is glorious!
Yup.
Awards are not meaningless. They are recognition for hard work and excellence in design, which is not easy to achieve, ...even with a group providing feedback.
Enough people recognized your games as enjoyable and worthy. They put the right words into the right ears and this year a substantial group of smaller publishers were recognized. I'm glad Zak and James won. The games they make might be just enough to put food on their table for the families... It might be enough to help with other bills, and it should open up some new opportunities for them to earn money if they want to continue with game design.
Congratulations again!
That said, I didn't attend GenCon this year. We had our family vacation and went camping instead. The boy made me bring my SAGA Star Wars game and we started a new Clone Wars campaign, and we got plenty of play time in.
I really regret selling my Star Wars minis back in 2008, Had about $400 in minis. It would cost about a G note to get that back now. Getting better about keeping my collection intact these days.
That's why I don't sell anything anymore (unless its something I never ever used and totally can't conceive of any possible universe where I might use it in the future).

I was not present, the award was accepted by Stacy Dellorfano of Contessa (who also won gold), nobody present near the stage noticed the people leaving, but people following Lyndsay on Twitter did.

However, if i might give a little advice. If you find being lumped in with Pundit so unpleasant, maybe you shouldn't avail yourself of his 'services' quite so much. Apparently, this place is now the OSR Zak and Pundit show in many peoples' eyes.

Irony's fine for in-jokes, but the audience for what we write on the web isn't the insiders joking around, it's all the lurkers who just got to the page and are totally clueless.

I too am interested, particularly in a couple things:
"Cultured exotoxins". I see an opportunity for tables ranging from "stone-dead", to "tripping so hard you can actually talk to gods".
"Complex obstetrics". Baby making is often a touchy subject for gamers, so I'm pretty curious about how this will be fodder for a game.

The eastern slop of Mount Hellebor is known to the Amazons as the Garden of Emptiness not because of the 200' chasms that rend the rock, but for the unusually efficient and painless strains of abortifacient herbs (kvann and, of course, hellebore) that grow in them. An encounter roll of 21-24 indicates d4+1 Frostbitten Moons come to gather herbs for their decoctions, 25-26 indicates Maggot Sisters here for the same purpose 27-28 indicates Ulvenbrigad 29-30 The Thirteen. There will be a lot of abortion in this book.

I ordered a copy from my online* shop of choice (Sphärenmeisters Spiele) and was quite pleased when I got it upon my return from a week-long business trip.
While I was opening the package, my girlfriend asked me what it was. She flipped through it and said "You must run this". So there's that.
* Apologies to James Raggi... I should have bought from it direct at Nordcon in Hamburg, but I was short on cash and was at my limit for stuff to lug around on that dismal rainy day.

She is a sometimes gamer already (mostly D&D) but has not been terribly interested in any of the more recent stuff I have available.
It's really a nice creation, deserved of the awards bestowed on it. I don't buy a lot of gaming materials out of idle curiosity any more, so this one definitely caught my attention. I don't have a formed opinion yet because I've only had a few minutes to flip through it, but I definitely plan on using it in some fashion.
I think art and presentation makes a difference in general for any game product. But I also suspect it particularly makes a difference (in very broad sweeping terms) for women.
I only recently that my teenaged niece is a gamer, her interest in D&D not actually having anything to do with me but something she developed entirely by herself; she was stunned to discover who I was and what I'd done in RPG gaming. I made up for several lost birthdays by sending her Arrows of Indra and Dark Albion, and when she got Albion she was blown away by how great it looks.
There are only 54 left.
Hurry up if you want one.

Kills me that there's still one at 1/2 cover price at Black Diamond Games (an flgs). I've got my two copies already, but if someone doesn't snag it soon, I'll get it for gift giving.
I get accused of snagging the best stuff as soon as it arrives in shops, I leave an R&PL and this is how I'm repaid. Bah!

Finally got the time to look at it, on a weekend getaway at a German spa town called Bad Saarow. Staying at an inn converted from a grade school (called "The Old School"). It felt oddly appropriate.
The book itself is very nice. I cannot wait to use it. It's a rare gaming product that advances the form to that of art, but this is definitely one of those bright few.
