This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

4th OSG Confession - I'm OK will levels now.

I always love the rush of a new level.  One of the things I love about 3e is levels make it way easy to build balanced encounters.

Star Wars d6 was easier to run and play, but I had a rough time building encounters that were challenging but not TPKs or pushovers.

There's probably a better mechanism but I haven't played it yet.

Same. Prefer something else but doesn't stop me from playing with 'em.

Hear, hear, well spoken, HorusArisen!

Generally, it depends on the game... I like the way progression is handled in Vampire the Masquerade through generations and disciplines for example. Well, that is if you play as Sabbat.

But as long as you're enjoying a game it doesn't really matter all that much, so I'd be happy to play most systems. I do say 'most' as there is some poo that I couldn't bring myself to play.

Or you could forgo tying to ensure a balanced encounter and make the players use sound judgment as to whether to fight, flee, trick, or outmaneuver an enemy or obstacle...

True, as long as you are having fun. If I came across something I truly hated, versus preferring something else, I'd probably not play it.

Simple is precisely the point, dumbass.  Moderately complex minds think complexity makes them special, when it really just makes them inefficient. The mark of real genius is knowing how to simplify.

When it comes to RPGs, and most other things, I'm about keeping things as simple as possible given the circumstances.
