While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). Anyone Want to Volunteer to Make a Map?

I would like to see a few hex-style, or failing that I guess it could be a 2e FR style, maps of the Levant and of the Silk Road for my upcoming Campaign book.

Anyone care to volunteer to make them? Note that I'm not the publisher, I can't promise anything, even that the maps would end up in the product even if I like them. And we're operating on a shoestring budget so it might not be for more than a comp copy plus credit/exposure (but again, not the publisher, just saying this to make sure no one gets their hopes up).

If you're interested in helping me out, because I really want to make sure that there's a nice overview map and then some smaller local-area maps that have all the many places I present in the gazetteer of the setting, please get in touch with me on here or on private messages.

Why don't you use Kickstarter?

Kevin Crawford has proven that a professional author (like yourself) can use the KS system effectively for both himself and his fans as a total win-win.

Yes, KS is run by SJW freaks, but its an effective platform for OSR authors who deliver on their promises.

Well, there might be a crowdfunding going on, but I'm looking at options, and at the opportunity to involve people from this site who might want to join in.

Aren't you always bragging about how well you do as a game designer? And you're trying to get people to submit free work for a product that you plan to publish and sell? Or, if not "free" work, at least work with no promise or guarantee of compensation? Like, you literally won't even guarantee a comp copy (something you could easily buy and mail yourself)? Tempting, but I'll pass.

Are you looking for hand-drawn (and scanned) maps or digital versions, Pundit?

I know you're just a troll, but for the record, as an author and not the publisher I don't have any authority to promise anything, so I don't want anyone doing this under false pretenses. Whatever can be worked out will be with the publisher, if the map is worthwhile. This is a call for submissions, not a contract.

Well, I think it could probably be either in theory. The important thing would be that it was done along the guidelines that match what I've got written up in the book, for which I'd have to talk it through with the map-maker, and share details from my manuscript.

Well, I'm not an experienced cartographer, but I have done game illustration in the past, for Steve Jackson Games and Amarillo Design Bureau, HERO Games and RTal.  I'd be willing to take a shot, but if you have a dedicated cartographer apply, I totally understand why they'd be better suited!

The part where the guy who rails performatively against communism asks people to work for free. Retard. It's a dick move to even ask. Buy the art you want, then do what you want with it, whether it's hang it, burn it, or use it in a game. Don't give everyone this big song and dance about being a successful game designer, then cry poor when it comes time to, you know, pay for assets for your next for-profit endeavor. Maybe, since Pundit seems to have so little input here, he should just put prospective artists in touch with the publisher? I mean, since they're calling the shots and holding the purse-strings.

Nobody held a gun to my head to volunteer; I'm happy to do so.  I've worked in game illustration before and don't really need the exposure, just something that interests me that I'd like to take a stab at.

Kinda going over the top there to find an excuse to bash Pundit over something pretty innocuous, don't you think? It's OK to ask if anyone is up for making a relatively simple hex map of an existing real world map. Anyone. It's like you chose literally the least offensive thing Pundit's ever said to bash him over.

Well, close. "I'm looking for people to make a map and can't promise you'll actually get published or what the publisher would offer" is nearly but not quite as inoffensive as "here are pictures of my cats", but I'm sure if Tubesockpuppet tries very hard he'll find a way to attack me on that too.
