If men had anything to do with naming children, my son would be Hadrian.

Well, I did.

And I chose Lily, too.

As did a close friend for their baby. It's a lovely name, and seems suddenly popular. My post was meant to be a humerous aside on the amount of input most men have in their children's names, doc, not a slur on the name Lily. Apparently the humor failed... :O

lol...no, no, it's fine.  I love the name Lilly, but you should see the list of suggested first or middle names that never made it past the wife.  Honestly, what's so wrong with Persephone (maybe she'd marry well) or Cassandra (hey, she'd at least tell the truth, even if no one would believe her).

Actually here in Indy, a lot of folks are naming their kids after Peyton Manning, and Theresa said I could if we won the Super Bowl this year.  So I was going to go with Lilly Peyton, but instead we ended up on Lilly Parker Houghton, to accompany her older sister, Saris Victoria Houghton.

Like most Olde Yankees, My family names are mostly Hebrew* - Hezekiah, Asa, Gideon, Jeremiah, Adriel, etc - or bizzare -  Rising Lake is my personal favorite. For some reason though, these names didn't appeal to my wife. I think she imagined some bible-thumping preacher, even though most of those guys were honest sea captains interested only in addicting masses of Chinese to opium and other genteel pursuits. I tried the historical approach - Hadrian (isn't that a girl's name? Like in Rocky?), Ceasar (That's a bit grandiose), Constantine (too Greek), Alexander (He'd be nicknamed Sandy! Another girl's name!), Ghengis Khan (You've GOT to be kidding!), etc., but we finally compromised on her choice... :D

Dude, I was so far from insulted by it that the light from insulted would be a hundred years late in getting to me.  So...

...but it's weird, suddenly "Lily" or "Lilly" is popular.  What's up with that?  Zeitgeist?

My buddies Daughters name is Payton Jane. But shes named after Walter Payton not Peyton manning. (For those not in the know. Walter Payton (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_Payton) is/was the GREATEST NFL running back EVER.)

Flowers became big for a while - as did older names.  Lily happens to be a very beautiful name that fits both categories.

My daughter, who is likely splashing aroundin the flood right now, is Haley Morgan.  Haley is partially because the day we found out she was coming there was this huge hail storm.  Morgan is a german nod and hell..it's morning..and sounds like morgana..and...it's cool...so there...

I predict in 20 years there will be a great football player named Manning something-or-other.
