Title: Anyone familiar with Grimm?
Post by: rgrove0172 on February 09, 2017, 11:58:20 AM
This game really struck a chord. Wondering if there are any fans on the site here? Anyone run it?

Yeah, i was asked to write for it once and decided that it wasn't for me. To be fair, i can barely remember why i turned it down, so it couldn't have made much of an impression on me either way.

If this is the game I'm thinking it is, I bought a copy of the PDF a year or two back when I was watching a lot of fairy tale TV shows (Once Upon a Time, etc.) and liked the concept. Never did anything with it, though, and had totally forgotten about it until this thread. :-(

I think it may have been a D20 setting initially, before being switched to it's own system. My thoughts at the time were that it was quite neat, although it tended towards modern American tropes rather than ones taken from the original (German) tales directly.

Yes, I picked up the d20 version by accident, then had to find and print the other version's PDF. I agree, the setting material is directed more toward popular mythos than the real Grimm tales but I suppose that is to be expected. I plan to use the original source material for inspiration. The system, the independent d6 one that is, seems well suited to the setting although I worry a bit about bringing adults into the game. The denizens of the Grimm lands may well measure up here and there against children as part of the unique connection but if you use the game to run action in the real world adults are incredibly superior, as I suppose they should be, but it takes come getting used to.

My campaign centers around a real world adventure (missing children in a small town etc.) with an eventual discovery that the culprit is snatching them away to the Grimm lands for sale. The action then moves into the proper setting. In preparing I found working up adults to be a challenge, typically minimizing their abilities to make things challenging but not overwhelming.

I thought you were talking the cheeseball TV show.

Nope,   but I did discover a variation of WOD called "Innocents" that has me intrigued. As I said above my campaign will take place at least 50% of the time in the real world and Im wondering if WOD wouldn't be a better fit. Anyone have any experience with it?
