Title: Anyone ever use the RIP, not just the FASE?
Post by: Neoplatonist1 on April 14, 2025, 07:35:35 PM
Back in the day we used to play Marvel Super Hero battles, but we never ran actual scenarios. Consequentially, Reason, Intuition, and Psyche never got used. This no doubt limited the interest and plotmaking of the game, but there you have it. Other people I know have had similar experiences.

Have any of you ever ran a real MSH game where you'd use the RIP attributes, not just the FASE ones?

uh, yeah? as i recall some powers where based on or resisted by those attributes, rolling intuition to find or detect things if i recall correctly is one example...

No, but I've run 1984 superhero RPG Golden Heroes many times as a "skirmish game". It works very well, since GH was co-authored by avid wargamer Peter Haines, who would go on to write for Warhammer. GH has clear measurements for time, distance and effect, making it very easy to run as a "beat 'em up" without the roleplaying. And it was largely based (by co-author Simon Burley's admission) on Gamma World 1e, making it an early OSR game, in my opinion.

Some people use just the Psyche! For everything!
