I was discussing RPGs you'd like to run and don't get an opportunity to due to lack of interest etc.
One thing that sort of developed was an idea to put up for offer to run an RPG via a VTT.
Taking that a bit further. I think an Rpgsite, sort of online RPG convention weekend could be cool.
This means setting aside a weekend to allow for time differences, life and work commitments etc where games up for offer are "Registered" and people sign up for them.
The games could be discussed and arranged here on the forums it might attract more people here anyway.
It could be a laugh and gives people a chance to run and play RPGs they would not normally have a chance to.
Is anyone interested in this?
Sounds cool to me. Since my local gaming scene is kind of weak I have been interested in getting into gaming online, would be a cool way to stick my toe into the water so to speak.
I play and run a fair amount of RPGs these days, but I'm been intrigued with VTT RPGs.
I've sort of messed around with setting it all up and I think it's pretty doable.
but I've not actually run a VTT RPG yet, so I'd like to give it a go.
If it happens, I'll probably run something with straightforward rules and abstracted combat rules, rather than using a virtual battlemat type thing.
I have never done VTT gaming. Wasn't there a VTT weekend con being promoted by theRPGsite a couple years ago? All female GMs? I kinda remember somebody promoting it here.

That sounds like it might have been Contessa.
I think an RPGsite VTT con is a swell idea.
Never VTT either, but I like the idea of this and would be willing to try.
OK, well to get the ball rolling (assuming this goes ahead), I'd like to run Sine Nomine's "Silent Legions". Which I just got today.
It's a sort of OSR Horror RPG in the style of Call of Cthulhu.
Nice and easy to run and play, which is pretty important for Online RPGs.
I don't think I'd be personally participating, however I think it's a very good idea! If a group of you want to organize this, it would certainly have my blessing and once organized I'd help to promote it as best I could.
Cool thanx. :)
Do you think we could get a dedicated forum for this to lay out dates, rules, organise specific games and general discussion?
As there's a lot to organise and this forum will get clogged up with threads about it and important threads could also get buried.
That is assuming there's enough people interested. So far there's a few takers.

Or maybe even just making it a Sticky for a little while so it doesn't drop out of sight for folks that don't come here quite as often as some.
I'd be down to spin some dice.

You're right! Thank you!
Before you crazy kids go reinventing the wheel, it may be worth the effort to contact the Contessa ladies and have them share their advice on how to make a VTT con successful.
If they've run more than one Contessa, I imagine they've learned a lot about what works and more importantly, what doesn't work.
BTW, did any of you do Contessa or any other VTT convention?
What did you think? What worked for you? What didn't?

Sadly no, I was signed up to take part in their Valentine's Day event but it suddenly got cancelled for no reason I've been able to discern.
They've been doing live play videos on Youtube on Wednesday nights and there a number of participants vlogging on Youtube about game stuff. Just search 'Contessa RPG' and things will pop up.
Stacy Dellorfano seems to be the leading force behind it and she has a channel on Youtube about Contessa and gaming.
Not really sure about asking the Contessa group.
I don't really know them, but could ask I suppose. Unless anyone here knows them and asks for advice.
I've never run a VTT RPG or run a VTT Con, but I thought we could flesh out details in a dedicated thread once there's enough people to make it worth it.
I figure if we get about 10 people to sign up to the idea, it should be enough to go ahead.

I don't know Stacey personally but my impression of her is that she's a friendly and generous person who'd probably be happy to answer questions.
I shot ConTessa an email and asked her to check out the thread.

Cool, thanx. It'll be good to get information on that.
:)
I'll sticky it, to see what comes of it.

Any word yet on how this is proceeding?
I've not heard anything, so moving forward.
I'd like to run Perhaps one of the following:
1: DnD 5th Edition
2: Silent Legions
I'm more familiar with DnD 5e, as I only got Silent Legions last week, but I'm pretty familiar with the Satrs without number core system and it's pretty simple.
If anyone is keen on either let me know.
What weekend date do people think would be appropriate?
I was thinking sometime in late May, starting from Friday Evening GMT to Sunday Evening GMT.
I'd probably be running a game a Saturday evening GMT +10.
I'll probably be using Roll20, although probably won't be using the battle grid, it'll mostly be narrative.
Anyway, if those who are interested in GMing and/or playing please state system preferences either way and the VTT you want to use (or whatever) and see where it goes from there.
I'd definitely like to try playing Silent Legions... but I'm up for anything.
Roll20 works for me.
Having seen just a few replies stating interest, it looks like an VTT RPG convention isn't going to happen. I just don't think there's enough interest purely from here.
However, I'm be interested in running some sessions for either DnD 5E or Silent Legions at some stage. Not as a mini con, just as some linked sessions for a mini-campaign and run on an adhoc basis.
I was thinking of running a few VTT sessions perhaps on a fortnightly basis at GMT +10 hours in the evening (my time) from towards the end of May. Which will give lots of time to get a date set, players and prep time for me..
Anyone up for this? I'm leaning towards 5E, but would be keen on silent legions if the majority wanted that.
Either way, a max of 5 players.
