Title: AD&D High Level Magic Use
Post by: Pelgrane on September 25, 2008, 12:47:48 PM
Talk to me of high level magic use.

What's your best Chain Contingency? Is it worth memorizing anything with a "Neg" saving throw?

Traditionally amusing combinations include Otto's Irresitible Dance (no save on spells) followed by almost anything; Disintegrate, Charm Monster, Hold Person or Polymorph Other.

I'm looking for interesting spell selections and spell combos for high level AD&D Magic Users. I use 1st Ed PH + Unearthed Arcana + Tome of Magic (2nd Ed I know) to throw at my players.

High-Low combo just off the top of my head, no books handy to check it works: Otto's plus Grease.  Dance, fall on your ass, dance, fall on your ass!

I always liked the combination of Wall of Stone followed by Stone to Flesh.

You could feed an army with that combo!

Rock to Mud then Mud to Rock is always good for crowd control; a Flesh/Stone version would be particularly unpleasant.

We could call this combo the Chumbawumba.

If you chose Irresitible Thirst instead of Grease, it could also raise chuckles, if you made a wise choice of beverage.
