What seems to be the most powerful race/class combo at 1-4 levels in 5e? I would say in 3e it was probably dwarven cleric. Combo of several racial abilities, turning undead, huge spell pool, armor, decent weapons. They seemed to have it all. Ideally, tell me from experience. Thanks for your indulgence.

Half-Orc Barbarian and Wood Elf Ranger can get pretty rude at low level, especially once they pick certain subclasses/options.
from my in game experience, I have found the barbarians damage resistance is huge. More powerful than the druid's wildshape, which is largely heralded as too OP at low levels. The barbarian can take a shit ton of damage, and deal a shit ton of damage.
*edit*
nevermind about my example. I was wrong. Can't use rage when wearing heavy armor.

I still think the Half Orc Barbarian combo is awesome at low level.
It gets the AC = 10 + DEX bonus + CON bonus.. so AC should be pretty decent.
Plus Rage damage, plus the awesome damage resistance, which effectively double HPs.
I used a Level 3 Barbarian against the party (with some other supporting bandits) and he was horrible.
In play it's actually really fun though.
