Three hundred and fifty years ago Cameria was home to a loose collation of Elvish groups who lived a fairly nomadic lifestyle. However the expansion of the Yllish Empire over the great Eastern Sea ensured that first traders and then settlers started to arrive. The Yll quickly settled the forested land on the east, building towns that through vigorous trade and enterprise quickly became cities. As the Eastern Empire struggled with internal conflict and wars on its other boards the Camerian colonies became more isolated and more independent eventually declaring themselves as a separate kingdom. A brief war followed in which the Eastern Yll, extended and exposed on all sides of their once great empire, seemed to offer only token participation in. The colonies now referring to themselves as New Cameria set about taming the rest of the continent.

The New Camerians were inspired by a powerful religion, The Sun, worshiped in many aspects but they ensured that the religion was not allowed to take over politics but rather acted in parallel to it. They expanded through trade and contact with the indigenous Elvish population who they attempted to both convert and integrate. The Elves, unable perhaps to understand the rate at which the Yllish population would later expand simply moved further away into the wilderness.
In order to exploit the rich southern farmlands the Camerians imported Den (Half Orcs) workers to act as a labour force. The Den a strong and hardy race from the South were used as muscle which the Yllish Camerians focused on trade and commerce.
Within a hundred and fifty years the New Camerian Empire stretched across the entire continent. The Elvish tribes became increasingly marginalised and were affected by the Yllish disease Ras to which they had no resistance. Decimated in number and squeezed onto increasingly inhospitable land they mounted a series of rebellions but despite individual combat prowess and the support of their Old Gods were no match for the New Camerians in terms of numbers, discipline or military technology and were defeated and left to sit in small homelands.

The Den adopted Sun worship mixing it with their own religious practice. They grew in number but remained in menial roles until they too started a rebellion that soon developed into an Empire wide Civil War. Emperor Cin-llon emerged victorious from that battle and the Den’s lot improved gaining legal protections etc although come might claim the changes were largely cosmetic.

Today New Cameria is torn politically and religiously. Divided into a number of principalities two powerful political lobbies vie for control. The Gress look to reduce the power of the church and remove power from the regions centralising it. The Te look to restore Yllish customs and put the church to the forefront of Empire life. The empire is divided into four administrative areas known as Fiefs. To the West sits Forna, wealthy and progressive. The Church of the Sun has labelled it decadent. To the South lies Exa a stronghold of old fashioned Yllish values and the bedrock of Church’s power. To the East sits New Yll, the cradle of the original settlers and a mix of tradition and innovation. They have maintained a far stricter separation of Church and Empire than the other Fiefs. To the North sits Id-wes  the largest of the Fiefs it provides the majority of agriculture. Squarely on the side of the Church and the Te faction it is surprisingly weak politically.

The Empire faces two new challenges, challenges which have widened the gap between the Gress and the Te to one of open warfare at times and have challenged the role of the Church. First a Heresy has taken root. Originating far over the Eastern Sea The Lamis sect has grown in influence. Calling for a unity between Church and State the Lamis have a very strict set of religious laws but at the same time call for a reformation of Church apparatus which largely removes the priesthood from power. The Church of the Sun stands in stark opposition to this heresy and both the Gress and the Te are opposed to it though perhaps for different reasons. The Church is trying to use the threat to integrate the Empire and the Church more and calling for those that are lax in their piety to be refused positions in power etc. The Lamis sect has become very popular with some of the younger Den and has mounted a number of small scale military actions.

The second challenge is the influx of a growing population of Ican (Trieflings). Coming from the South the Ican have vigorously converted to the Church of the Sun and are growing in numbers in Forna and Exa. They rapid growth has shifted political power in these Fiefs and their culture has begun to replace Yllish culture in some towns, however, their unusual appearance and rumours of their demonic heritage cause a lot of the Yll to view then with suspicion if not open hostility.
