The 5e fighter totally sucks, guys. It seriously has no options whatsoever and is SUPER BORING. Shitty grognards ruined D&D once before, and I'm not going to let that happen again. Here's my redesigned fighter; I think it's a much better fit for 4e players such as myself.
Reaping Strike
You punctuate your scything attacks with wicked jabs and small cutting blows that slip through your enemy’s defenses.
Action: One action.
Attack: +6 vs. AC.
Hit: 2d6 + 7 damage.
Miss: Strength modifier damage.
Pinpoint Targeting
Taking a moment to aim your attack, you arrow is sure to hit.
Action: One action.
Attack: +4 vs. AC.
Hit: 1d8 + 5 damage.
Miss: Dexterity modifier damage.
Dwarven Resilience
"Hah! Haven't had a drink that could put me down yet!"
Action: One reaction.
Trigger: You fail a saving throw vs. poison.
Effect: You succeed on your saving throw.
Fierce Demeanor
With a snarl, you cow your opponent.
Action: One reaction.
Trigger: You make a Charisma check when attempting to intimidate someone.
Effect: You gain a +3 bonus on your roll.
Stonecunning
As someone who has lived in a cavern all his life, you have an innate understanding of underground locales.
Requirement: You must be underground.
Action: One action.
Effect: You study the area around you. You immediately know approximately how deep you are within the earth and you can retrace your steps. You can also identify visible stonework and the culture that created it.
How do you guys like it?

LOL! :rotfl:
That writeup reminds me of the old fighter spells from Dragon.
Draw Blood
Material component: a sword

This sucks.
I attack the orc. That's all I need.
Reaping strike makes me think of John Cleese cutting and slicing virgins.
And that is the ONLY time I have ever in my life made a reference to The Holy Grail. Fuck, I hope I'm not becoming one of them.
At least it's not written like:
Reaction: 2(w+3/3.14)+(y=mx+b) points of damage

Where's the joke?
:banghead:
I took the fighter abilities from the playtest and formatted them into powers. It's tongue-in-cheek because the 4vengers think a game sucks without power cards.

You could have done better.

It only takes the one time...
...
BROTHER.

Wait, fighters can cast polymorph?
I have to admit this is one of your better jokes BT.

No. You re-wrote and redesigned them into 4E-style powers. Not the same thing.
Whatever. All that shit sucks.
If I have to open my mouth to say more than, "I attack the closest orc," then fuck that shit.

They function in almost exactly the same way.
Similarly, awhile back on rpg.net someone tried reformulating some 2E 'martial' abilities into power format.

Fighter Attack 1
You hit one enemy with your superior training with the longsword, inflicting grevious wounds.
At-Will ✦ Martial, Weapon
Standard Action Melee weapon
Target: One creature
Attack: 1d20 + 1 vs. (THAC0 - AC) and you get 3/2 attacks/round
Hit: S-M: 1d8 + 3 damage; L: 1d12 + 3 damage
AWESOME!
But then, you didn't see:
Special Defensive Training
Dwarf Racial Power
Because of your small size and combat ability against bigger creatures, you are harder to hit.
At-Will
Immediate Interrupt Personal
Effect: When ogres, trolls, ogre magi, giants, or titans attack you, they suffer a -4 penalty to their attack roll.
KICK ASS! But wait till you look at:
Backstab of badassery!!!
Rogue Attack 1
Attacking from behind unnoticed, you are able to deal extra damage, finding the opponent's weak spot.
At-Will ✦ Martial, Weapon
Special: You must attack the target from the back, completely unnoticed by that target.
Standard Action Melee Weapon
Target: One creature
Attack: 1d20 + 4 vs. (THAC0 - AC)
Hit: S-M: 2d6 damage; L: 2d8 damage
Maybe it's my personal tastes and preference for efficiency, but instead of having a multi line stat block, it is much simpler just to say:
Weapon Specialization: +1 to hit, +2 to damage, 3/2 attacks per round
Dwarves: +4 AC vs giant sized creatures
Backstab: x2 damage when attacking from behind unnoticed.
What purpose is there in having a huge ass stat block that unnecessarily bloats everything into something harder to follow?

1. Writers are paid by the word.
2. 4vengers don't really think coherently. They like their power cards and shouting I USE REAPING STRIKE, so if something is a passive bonus, it's BORING.
Also don't forget:
A line written on a sheet might get forgotten.
A color coded card with 4 X the word requirement in your face screams "I'm a button, push me please".

A card, with the details of a rules mechanic on it, says "hey, this is a rule you can use without having to interrupt the session to look up some rules in a book!".
But that's also a vote in favour of simple mechanics that can be expressed in a few words, and aren't D&D4's info blobs...

The context here was that there was discussion about how many options etc. were there in 2E (a bit of a derail in a long 'discussion' about whether 2E or 4E was more complex). In order to prove that 2E had actual stuff that could be done, it got reformatted into a thing that the 4E guy could understand :)
I agree, I don't think there's much point having long, bloated power descriptions either.
