It has nothing to do with RPGs, nor the topic at hand.  If the issue being talked about were how to handle child NPCs in a game world, you might have a case.  And someone can defend someone against ALLEGATIONS of various things without being those things themselves, nor agreeing with them.

The paedo-hysteria in society is nigh-on insane, and I say this as a teacher who has to keep looking over his shoulder for a frothing parent every time I touch one of my students on the shoulder to get their attention.  One can argue against what one percieves as trolling/outrageous allegations (we just have some posts, creep-inducing as they may or may not be - I wasn't party to the original stuff, and am not interested enough to dig it up) without being tarred forever.  "I hate what you say, but will defend to my dying breath your right to say it" applies here.  Free speech and freedom of expression are of tantamount importance to philosophical and artistic endeavours.  You have to feel free to discuss hypotheticals without being accused of it yourself.  Or is Stephen King a paedo because he wrote a section of IT where pre-pubescent kids have sex in order to escape the clutches of an evil being, even though he admits being high out of his gourd on coke the whole time he wrote it?  Is Nabokov a paedo for writing Lolita?

I read the thread. All of it. And the only person that gave me a negative impression was mattormeg.

When it comes to Mythusmage's original writing, I really don't care. He can fantasize and write about whatever he wants, and I don't care unless he actually acts on it with an actual child. Defending the right to think and express freely is always admirable, and I think that is not inconsistent with also telling somebody that they are a dumb shit for saying something stupid (which I think the Dragon Earth stuff is... not threatening, not outrageous, just dumb). That he was told to not post about such things anymore was probably a good thing, but as long as it's just words on the internet it's not a big deal either way.

Far more, yes. For AD&D you might have had to ignore a couple of the over-cumbersome rules ("let's not use weapon speed modifiers"), or change some rule here or there.

For 4e, just for starters, I'd have to rewrite the entire XP system, treasure tables, and encounter system.  I'd basically have to invent my own random encounter tables, treasure tables, rethink xp because obviously the way they'd be giving out xp wouldn't work, and of course that's just the tip of the iceberg.  And as many have already pointed out, the changing or removing of one thing in a system as anal as 4e would throw everything out of whack  and create consequences with all the other elements that were tied into it, meaning a HUGE effort.  

A huge effort that's simply not worth it.
