What will be the races in the 4e PHB? Either facts or wild speculation are welcome.

Wild-Ass Speculation:  Gnomes are out, but Half-Dragons and maybe Warforged are in.

I understand that tieflings are in. At least one poorly-loved race will be removed (I'm guessing either gnomes or halflings, possibly half-elves).
I am no longer posting here or reading this forum because Pundit has regularly claimed credit for keeping this community active. I am sick of his bullshit for reasons I explain here and I don\'t want to contribute to anything he considers to be a personal success on his part.

I recommend The RPG Pub as a friendly place where RPGs can be discussed and where the guiding principles of moderation are "be kind to each other" and "no politics". It\'s pretty chill so far.

Halflings are likely in (one of the 4E artwork images out there shows one), half-elves definitely so (but why?). I haven't read anything about gnomes. I worry about them.

I wouldn't be surprised to see some (if not all) monsters as playable "races" in core support. If they're trying to keep up with MMOs, you'll need to be able to play Orcs and whatnot.

We all do, my friend.  We all do...

I'd guess that half-orcs are out. They only got into 3E because there was a general wave of 1E nostalgia. Not a particularly useful race, no big iconic characters from any background.

I wonder whether the designers will take concept over history and make a race for every attribute...

If I had my way, the Cleric would be ditched for the Gnome Apothecary!

Apothecary would be a neat skill, but they should follow the mentalist's path.

That way we can get a psychic gnome looking for herbs.
(not as funny in the UK)

Gunslinger

I've heard they are doing away with humans.

I noticed that, and that they appear to continue being the stupid "tiny sized adult human" instead of the more traditional Hobbit-like appearance.  Why??

I FtA!, we just use plain old Orcs. I mean really, what the fuck was ever the point of a "half-" orc anyways?

And of course, if you can actually play an Orc as a race, then the half-orc becomes utterly and completely redundant.

(which, btw, tells you what I think about half-elves).

Got to agree with you there, Pundit. I can't see any reason for half-elves to be in D&D aside from tradition, and as far as I can make out they were put in so that people who wanted to play a non-human could do so whilst not having to deal with level limits as stringent as the elves'. What nonsense.

I ran a campaign where half-elves were a major part of the setting. So no, I can't say that I agree with you two.
