Voting for the ennies is open and I can't believe how many of the nominated products are such absolute trash. There are a few things that look pretty cool ("Moerk Borg Artpunk RPG" for example), but so many are just really dump with terrible, amateurish art.
The entryist cancer unmistakable, and the non-poz content is down to around 40-50%. In one particular case, a game ("BFF!") was written explicitly for tween girls but became "unexpectedly popular" amongst genderqueer 20-30 year old not-at-all-insufferable-or-clearly-deranged people.
Where spotlights the newly released gaming material that's actually good, stuff that would be nominated for awards in a hypothetical non-clown dimension?

One clue are the Kickstarter games. Most of which that use bisexual lighting.
You think this is a joke. Wait till Origins awards. That will be all sorts of special.
What is non-poz? What is bisexual lighting? How do you know they are deranged? Did you do a poll?
I looked through all the awards and felt super meh. Nonplussed. Not impressed. Maybe the bisexual lighting would have helped? I don't consider myself gender queer but these days my feelings on it hardly matter. Someone may have declared me gender queer and now I have to buy this game.
Electric Bastionland is a cool game. And Trilemma has awesome maps. My two cents.

Not quite pink or blue? weird greenish maybe?

Is that the guy that makes the free dungeon maps? Only product on that list I recognized, everything else is just word salad. But my opinion is probably irrelevant because I don't use social media or post on rpg.net.

Dude, you can volunteer to be an Ennies judge. They need volunteers every year. If you don't like how they're judging, then you do it. Such lazy slacktivism. Whine bitch moan and complain...except when you have to do the work of reading hundreds of entries yourself and talk to people about nominations.
BFF is in the FAMILY GAMING category by the way, not in the BEST GAME category. My daughter saw it and thought it looked cool. She's 9. It's clearly in the right category. No idea if it's any good but I suspect it probably is. It is, in fact, a tween girls game. It's written by a mother who is a children's book author, and her son. It's listed in the only category that would cover tween girl games.
I recognize almost none of these games. That is not a good thing.

Looks like I hit a nerve. I haven't had the best opinion of the ennies for quite some time, I remember a couple of years back concluding that Gold always just went to the biggest kid on the block, regardless of quality, and that was bad enough. Since the ascendancy of poz, it seems to have shifted from the biggest to the gayest (at least in terms of nominees).

That's the funny thing. It doesn't bother me that games exist that don't appeal to me, and I'm legitimately happy that young girls have games they like
BUT despite the fact that
BFF! was designed for young girls, it's apparent popularity far exceeds their influence. The adult sodomite demographic that seems to be drawn to children's products is what I find disturbing. There are several nominated games that have a similar aesthetic - looks like a children's book but the illustrated characters are a virtual checklist of fat, black, brown, cripples, and hijabs. These games are made by and for people with nose rings, the sides of their heads shaved and their hair dyed in unnatural colors, problem glasses, numerous mental health issues, and HIV. Their predominance in the list of nominees is simply an indication of the level of infiltration by the sjwubbleyoos into the "institutions" of the hobby. They live to infiltrate and ruin institutions.

I just went through the list and voted everything as No Vote.
A Pound of Flesh is listed under a few. That's an expansion / adventure book for Mothership. I have only glanced at the PDF so far and am awaiting my print copy from the Kickstarter.
Its worth checking out the Questing Beast reviews of Mothership and A Pound of Flesh. To me, this is a much better sort of implementation of an "Alien" RPG than anything else I have seen.
For such a small game they pack in a lot of value and offer some interesting lessons in design.

So to be clear,
1) because people you dislike also like the game, in addition to the tween girls the game was made for, it's wrong to nominate it as a tween girl game in the only category that tween girl games would fit (the family game section) because those people you dislike also like it?
2) the people you dislike are, "fat, black, brown, cripples, hijabs, nose rings, sides of their heads shaved, hair dyed in unnatural colors, problem glasses [Edit - I don't even know what this means], mental health issues, and HIV positive"?
Do I have that right?
Last year I submit anything to the ENnies. Waste of time, really.
Quote from: FelixGamingX1;1138888Last year I submit anything to the ENnies. Waste of time, really.
I am always curious if being nominated, or even winning one, results in any meaningful increase in sales? I know Eisner winners for years would complain it saw very little uptick in sales. I think that eventually changed but it took a long time.

1 - PRODUCT. OF. THE. YEAR.
2a - fat, black, brown, cripples, hijabs = indifferent but their conspicuous over-representation is intentionally designed to alienate normal white people
2b - nose rings, sides of their heads shaved, hair dyed in unnatural colors, problem glasses (https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/001/367/922/59f.jpg) = visual signifiers of a terrible personality
2c - mental health issues = it is what it is
2d - HIV positive = play stupid games win stupid prizes
By framing the issue as "people I dislike" you are attempting to deflect from the reality that the sjw lumpen-bourgeoisie aggressively and maliciously "dislike" normal people enjoying normal hobbies without a Human Resources Hall Monitor present at all times.
I would definitely vote for Arden Vul, giant old school megadungeon written for 1E (OSRIC).
Quote from: jeff37923;1138741I just went through the list and voted everything as No Vote.
I went through the list and voted for some that I either knew of or had been told of by others. Animated Deck for example. Killer Kobolds, Americana, Nibiru to name a few. So its not a total mess. But seems geared mostly to the smaller obscure releases. Which is not necessarily a bad thing.
I like the Plot Points podcast, mostly politics free RPG reviews and interviews.
I think the only thing I recognize from any of that is Arden Vul.

Still not entirely clear on what "problem glasses" are... As someone who wears reading glasses, this has got me worried that I might be giving off signifiers of a terrible personality.

As I understand it, "problem glasses" are worn by a fairly specific set of new age feminists who like riding the "cock carousel" until around 30 and realize the chances of them finding a husband after having had triple digit sexual partners go down the drain. These glasses pop up somewhere in the late 20's to said 30 mark (the wall if you will) and then these Wearers of the "problem glasses" often horn rimmed or funky looking glasses to make the wearer appear more intelligent or thoughtful, but often having no actual corrective value, use wearing these to give a "street cred" boost to the blogs, articles, or books they write about how they are not in fact "whores" and there are just no good men out there and they feel their lives have been wonderful adventures. Problem glasses are often the first stage to becoming "lonely cat lady" in their mid to late 40's writing articles in a bed with cat urine on it about how they wish they would have started a family or settled down with that one dude when they were 21, but decided to "live life to its fullest". Or at least that was the take I got from some internet dude. No idea as to accuracy or how wide spread.
https://www.google.com/search?q=problem+glasses
I knew what they were as soon as they were mentioned. A "benefit" to living in Oregon, I suppose.

Mothership is really good indeed. Good to see it's supplement is running for an award. The game deserves more recognition.
Voted in 4 categories. Barely. The "Best Publisher" category must have no time limits, as I'm pretty sure at least a couple of the companies I recognized on that overly large list haven't put out anything new in a while. Buried Without Ceremony's last published product, for example, was March of 2019(and even then it was a collection of games and an essay from 2013-2014). The guidelines clearly state that products must be published between March 1, 2019 and April 31, 2020 to qualify. I would assume that a nominated company would have to have published something within this same time frame to qualify, but I guess not. Weird.
Also glad to see Mjollnir's comment in context(it was brought up in another thread) and see that the dude from the other thread was full of shit.
ETA: . . . well, what I came here initially to write, actually. I am easily distracted sometimes. Anyway, I do like that more obscure products get some recognition, but - and I say this as someone who collects games both traditional and bizarre - this seems extreme. I've collected weird games and discussed them for most of my roleplaying career, and even I'm scratching my head going "what the hell is this?" at a lot of the stuff nominated. If I'm clueless about so many of these selections, the average gamer is going to be fucking lost! There's no way they're going to get enough votes in some of these categories for the results to be in any way meaningful.
Also, 1 of my votes was more defensive. I just picked the thing that looked coolest and gave it a 1 in the hopes that it'd be more likely to beat those fucking safety tools that violate both common sense and APA guidelines on how to actually act around people with PTSD and phobias. They're probably going to win anyway.

The guy was just describing Adam Koebel. I think you're making more out of it than was meant. It was poking fun at Koebel and/or people like him.
So, the game called out as objectionable here...won nothing. And the game which won the highest honor...is an OSR game (MÖRK BORG (Free League Publishing)). So now what?

What "one game"?
The only game called out as "woke" didn't win anything.
The one game called out in the OP as looking like it might be good...won the top award and several others!
The game which won the biggest award is OSR. And that publisher won the fan award too, and that OSR game won best writing and best layout. Could be some other OSR games are in there. I know The Ultraviolet Grasslands looks pretty "non-woke" to me, and it won several awards too. And the same publisher as Borg won another award for Aliens.
I am not seeing any "woke" games that won anything. Are you? Sure looks like the winners list is closer aligned with the views of people here than with the views of the "woke" crowd.

Yes you kind of were imo.
Your posting history is filled with being disingenuous and purposefully stupid when it suits you and the narrative. Given how Woke you are your now trying to pretend, bullshit and more importantly con the forum into thinking you made a mistake. Somehow you "missed" the most woke product on the list which is the safety toolkit, while knowing damn well what is was. Why else would a product have such a title today if it was not an SJW or Woke product.
So either you did not read the initial list and don't want to admit to it or as per your usual modus operandi trying to pull a fast and claim ignorance. Nice try yet imo none of falling for it. It was easier for you to accuse us of being ignorant and causing a fuss and pushing your narrative. Rather than checking the facts first because again it goes against the narrative. OK, the safety toolkit is "woke"? I didn't recognize that one either. But I just looked that one up and yeah now I can see it on that one.
So you didnt even read it all the way?
Took a look at that Mörk Borg game. Kinda interesting, but very rules-light and very "arty" in its presentation (even the website was a pain to navigate because of that). I'm a bit surprised it's being called an OSR game. (I think my conception of "OSR" is a lot narrower than what the term has come to include.)

It's not an OSR game by any stretch of the imagination, it's just another SwordCream entryist trying to co-opt the term.
Quote from: sureshot;1142754Yes you kind of were imo.
So save the "I'm the victim here your all mean to me!"
Dude, the personal attacks are bullshit. You don't agree with my ideology? Cool. No reason to bash me personally. I am not and was not being disingenuous. You posted TWO items and I assumed you meant to post two and were not just referring to one. I did not in fact recall what that safety toolkit was before (I know you think that name is self-explanatory but it is not). Your assumption I did is just your own bubble in operation - it was on your mind, and people you know tall about it, so you just assumed everyone must know about it or remember it. In this thread, it's not the product which was highlighted earlier as being "woke". We had an entire discussion about that topic earlier, and it was a different product being highlighted, remember? If you felt so strongly about this product, why didn't you speak up then when we had the conversation earlier?
Bottom line, why don't you try focusing on positions rather than people? Stop assuming you know what I know and remember and do not know and remember. Stop assuming I have bad motives when I don't. Fuck, stop assuming I am a leftie when I am not.
Quote from: Slambo;1142755So you didnt even read it all the way?
Read what all the way? In the thread earlier the focus was on that teen girl game as being the "woke" example on this list. Do you guys just not remember?
Quote from: Mistwell;1142781Read what all the way? In the thread earlier the focus was on that teen girl game as being the "woke" example on this list. Do you guys just not remember?
The thing you responded to. That you specifically included in your quote. 3 short lines. 16 words. Earlier in the thread is irrelevant(and yes, we all remember the "teen girl game" had been mentioned; it's just not relevant to this). Heck, you're the one responsible for those 3 lines even being in this thread in the first place - they originated in one of your posts! - so I have difficulty believing you didn't read them, you know, as you were typing them in.
Nobody starts talking about the silver medal holder - much less assuming the other people's comments are about them - when people are discussing the winner. That's just weird and you know it.
So much for diversity, what a load of hypocrisy. The road to hell was paved with good intentions.

I started at the top, which was the silver one. I then didn't look up initially the second one, BUT I ASKED ABOUT IT. You guys apparently saw it as a glowing red source of evil, when all I saw were two game names which meant nothing to me so I just picked the first one and typed it into google.
I should have thought about the name more of the gold winner. I think my initial reaction was it was just another one of those "How to keep your PC alive" type guide books. But now that I read about it I think I had heard about that book earlier at some point (and rolled my eyes when I did).
But honest, I did not recall what it was when replying in this thread. It was just a meaningless name to me.

Please get over yourself. You could not be bothered do the the homework let alone the basic research. Were caught red handed with your bullshit and now you insist on playing the victim yeah sure whatever. As for the name safety toolkit. Nice attempt at both an evasive dodge and moving the goalposts. With a name like that what else could it be. What your next excuse if a sign says Danger minefield ahead or bleach is poisonous it's not self-explanatory. Again you could not be bothered do even do the basic amount of research and game here to do the Internet equivalent of wagging fingers in people faces claiming we are and were overreacting. Pot, kettle, black you disingenuous hypocrite. I see you do the exact same thing to everyone else all the time. Except this time instead of taking the time to do some critical thinking ( a trait most SJWs lack imo) you decided to be "GO GO SJW Rangers" and try to portray us as overreacting. Don't you know if a sign says "Danger Live Minefield" it means something else. That is his defense and a weak one at that. Then trying to claim ignorance of the material.
It's our fault again for overreacting to us catching him in his disingenuous bullshit. He can't admit to making a mistake and we are to blame.

When there is a pile-on you stop caring who is saying what since it's all the same pile-on. I said, "I am not seeing any "woke" games that won anything. Are you?" I didn't say "There are no woke games on this list" I asked the question. I got an answer of

Silver – Tunnel Goons (Highland Paranormal Society)
Gold – TTRPG Safety Toolkit (Smooching Knife)
Yep, nothing woke on that list...
Which to me looked like you were naming both of these items. So, I started from the top and looked it up and it didn't look objectionable to me. And responded
Quote from: Mistwell;1142720I don't know anything about them, other than...they're free. And capitalists tend to like money from their work. But, what is it about them that's "woke"? My brief look at tunnel goons didn't strike me as "woke". Pretty simplistic game.
Again, I asked the question. And, again, the pile-on just assumed this was bad faith because I didn't look them both up rather than asking what people had an issue with? And then I was called a liar for not knowing one of them was a "woke" game by it's name alone and ASKING what the problem was rather than assuming?

I honestly thought it was likely yet another "how to keep your PC alive when playing RPGs" type guidebook. There are several of those out there. That's what I assumed it was. But, I followed that assumption up with ASKING people what the issue was. Dodges try to avoid further conversation about it, but I was directly asking, making it clear it was not a dodge I just didn't know. And then when people said it was an issue I did look it up and immediately said yeah I see the issue with it - another non-dodge and non-excuse.

This is hilarious. I am a lifelong Republican, in most settings I am bashed by the left for being too right for them. But here, I am a SJW because I don't drink the "freak out about every little leftie thing" koolaid. And yes of course you are overreacting. It's not like this is the Nebula awards where they actually ejected all the conservative authors and only nominated and awarded leftie authors. If they were doing that, your reactions would be wholly appropriate. Instead, this all sounds like so much whining and freaking out for attention whoring reasons.

GeekyBugle even posted a full list about the Ennies and you still want to claim ignorance let me guess though it's never ever your fault when you screw-up.

It says Danger Live minefield ahead but really I thought it meant that fishing season was open. Off all the excuses do you seriously think that even makes any sense or remotely believable. The product would have been called "Tips and tricks to keeping your characters alive" or 1001 ways to PC survivability". Your grasping at any straws within reach, refuse to admit you made a mistake or were too lazy to lookup the product even when another poster copied the entire list. It took me not even a minute to see the product was as Woke as can be and very dangerous because it tells players and GMS alike to put themselves in the role of a psychologist. That is best left to the professionals and no joe or jane gamer. Keep up the good fight with the "I'm clueless and a victim".

No, you bitchy little prick. I said I didn't see anything with a problem but do you? That's not assuming the worst. It's ASKING. I don't know everything on that list, and NEITHER DID THE ORIGINAL POSTER. The original post though did make an assumption it was all garbage and did not ask if others saw anything good he just assumed it was all garbage. And you didn't say dick to him about that assumption. It's a double standard. You don't give a shit if someone researches the whole list, as long as they agree with your assumption. But if they disagree with your bias, then they have to do a heap of research into everything and not even dare fucking ask if others see any issues.
QuoteIt is bad faith because your deliberately going out of your way to pretend to be stupid about the nature of the product.
Except I didn't. I don't know why you think you can read my mind, but you cannot. Every word I said was true. I did not see the issue with any of the products, and did not recall what the Safety Toolkit product was and assumed it was something else. And that is the fucking truth no matter how many times you make the baseless accusation that it was otherwise.
QuoteIt is called the TTRPG SAFETY TOOLKIT. Did you think it was a recipe book for making all kinds of croissants and donuts.
No I thought it was one of those books giving advice on how to KEEP YOUR PC SAFE FROM DEATH. There are several of those products out there. One of them was a bestseller for a while and I thought this was just another knock-off of that one. I think it was a Survival Guide?

You ARE overreacting, and I am neither a Toucan nor a Youcan you drunk-posting bastard. Because hunting down a couple of objectionable games in a long list of games and then calling it ALL "garbage" is an overreaction. I never said "There isn't one woke game on the list!!!!!!" that's just your strawman claim about my my position.

Pretending to be dumb and disingenuous as usual while never accepting responsibility. It is called the SAFETY TOOLKIT if you bothered to do the research you would have learnt the nature of the product. Keep hiding behind the equally disingenuous "I thought it was about PC safety". I do get called out on my bullshit here and elsewhere except when I screw-up and make a mistake I don't claim to be the victim and try to dodge responsibility. You are right about posting the list and I made a mistake (see how easy that is) and assumed another poster had posted the initial list. I am not a Conservative you continual disingenuous twat I am a centrist. Not to far left yet neither to far to right. Apparently I am an enemy to both leftists and those on the right. Though out of the two the Leftists tend to call you out more if one is not drinking the SJW kool-aid. I also get called out on my behavior in real life as I don't surround myself with SJWs or those who simply echo what I want to hear. Nor demand an echo chamber. Funny how as soon as you get an pushback Or people disagree with you the assumption is that we are Conservative or Far Right. I think your just used to go to other forums where the mods and the posters just want echo chambers. Must be great assuming those who disagree with you must be automatically be part of either or both groups.

I never cared about anyone else's political views. But the moment I am told I can't write my games the way I like it, it becomes a problem. Wasn't it easier for SJWs to fuck off instead of trying to revolutionize an entire industry? What’s up with the ENnies, seriously!? I'm embarrassed of even sending my magnum opus to that shit.
Quote from: Shasarak;1142816SwordDream is some kind of super woke OSR producer mainly based on Twitter I think.
It's a shallow, poorly-hidden attempt to sneak storygame and storygame-inspired content into games presented as part of the OSR. I remember when SD was new, I saw the Twitter feed where they were asking "Why can't X be part of the OSR? Why not Y? Or Z?" and it was basically all stuff that came to prominence during the Forge/Storygames movement of the '00s. So the right answer is, of course, "because those are things that didn't come into prominence in game development until 2 decades too late to qualify. Duh."
Not gonna lie, though. Seeing it referred to as SwordCream warms my heart just a little.

SJWs are vandals who seek destroying anything the average human being likes. They're mostly sick people with twisted minds. Others just join in to instigate more chaos sense they lack a purpose in life. Basically the cancel culture in general are a bunch of retards with mommy and daddy issues. The problem with "big" publishers is that they all get trapped in their demands even though I'm positively sure it's because of the $$$, not beliefs.

I suspect peer pressure probably has something to do with it in addition to what you said, as far as I know Paizo and WoTC are located in urban Washington State which is a progressive area. If these people were apolitical (which I guess isn't allowed anymore) let alone conservative in any way it would be social suicide in that area. Not to mention of course within the company.

Why? because they see it as platforms to spread their mental disease. Infect as many as you can as often as you can while trying to tear down any resistance by painting them as the fasists when its they who are the fascists using all the tactics and tricks in the playbook.
Its in all levels of media. Boar gamings been infested at a slower rate. But its increasingly there.

Seizure of the media? Protection of Corporate power ? Obsession with national security? Linking faith and government? Suppression of Unions? Disdain for intellectualism and the arts? Get skull fucked you hypocrite because you like putting words in people mouths yet because mommy told you were destined for greater things that the same does not apply to yourself. If you ahte us so much why even stay on this site. I don't get posters like you. This place you hate the posters so much yet still stay. Me if I don't like a forum I leave.

Quote from: Cigalazade;1142859I apologize since I've been effectively out of the hobby for about ten years, but why did this stuff take root in role playing games of all things (other stuff I can see why). Most of these games fantasy and you can make up whatever kind of character you want basically.
They're still having a hard time of it, because controlling the publishers isn't enough. They have to control the end user as well. It does them no good if you buy* their Social Justice RPG Remix and rip out the theme and replace it with Murderhobo Simulator 3000.
* and that assumes you buy it and don't pirate the damn thing.

You actually gave them 10....and I would go 12.
Obsession with crime and punishment is a yes...(Cancel culture for thought crime)
religion and govt is a yes, because an aboslute bend the knee or die philosophy IS a religion, whether it has some deity or not.
I don't even look at the Ennies anymore, although I did back the Arkadia Faux-Greek setting on KS.
How bizarre! I mean, it's clear he who controls the media influences the world. But these people are clearly aiming for global domination. It's almost as if the gatekeeper for the gates of hell left the gates unattended and these creatures just started coming to surface devouring souls. They prey on the people with fragile states of mind to do their bidding for them. Who could be behind this, really?
For someone who aims to deliver an accurate medieval setting, I can't have women 3 times stronger than men. That's for the superhero books.
There's nothing stopping you from creating a bi/homosexual character in my games. It's just simply not a priority, but the choice remains in the player's hands.

you miss spelt paedophile loving white nationalists (aka conservatives and Christians )
Antifa have killed exactly no one, so how exactly they are militaristic compared to the frantic masturbation of conservatives to films of mass shooting victims, torture victims from abu gharaid and gitmo, and the dismembered child victims of drone strikes, I don't know.
don't see any obsession with national security, nor massive empowerment of unaccountable and hyper violent psychotic thugs (aka the police)
what junk science exactly? protecting the sciences from being used as a weapon by the malignant conservative death cult, is not junk science, stopping the traitors of the republican party deleting data is not junk science, resisting evil is not junk science.
Beyond a handful of publishers I barely recognize anything on the list. Are the are Ennies just for obscure CB or CB less known rpg publishers?

The Ennies have been co-opted by the woke mob, as such they are to give head pats to those who toe the cult's line.
Just like with the Eisners, Hugos, Nebulas, etc. Maybe the Dragon Awards are still relevant,
MAYBE.

As far as I know, the Dragons are apolitical still. The shake-up a while back seems to have 'regularized' them politically.
Yes, I know 'but the diversity track!'. Think of it as containment. With any luck it'll sputter out and we can go back to having about a hundred or so Deadpools in the Marriott lobby again.

Quote from: sureshot;1142843Pretending to be dumb and disingenuous as usual while never accepting responsibility. It is called the SAFETY TOOLKIT if you bothered to do the research
I already explained what I thought the Safety Toolkit was and why. And I said immediately I had not researched that one. Much like the OP had not researched all the games on the list he was making a general accusation about, but you had no issue with his post because you agreed with his ideological take on it.
Quoteyou would have learnt the nature of the product. Keep hiding behind the equally disingenuous "I thought it was about PC safety".
It's not disingenuous. That is in fact what I suspected it was. I thought it was some silly cutesy name for a knock-off product on some of the more popular versions of that concept.
Ask yourself for just the briefest moment, if a person did in fact think that's what the title was referring to, wouldn't their responses to you...look exactly like my responses have been to you? Go all the way back, to before you make accusations about me calling me a liar about this topic. Assume that's what I am thinking when I make my posts - that I just assumed it was some benign free product like a PC survival guide.
Because that's the truth. And no amount of you calling me names will change that from being the truth about my assumptions about that product. I never claimed to have looked it up, I just dismissed it as being some PC survival guide based on the title.
QuoteI am not a Conservative you continual disingenuous twat I am a centrist. Not to far left yet neither to far to right. Apparently I am an enemy to both leftists and those on the right. Though out of the two the Leftists tend to call you out more if one is not drinking the SJW kool-aid... I don't surround myself with SJWs or those who simply echo what I want to hear. Nor demand an echo chamber. Funny how as soon as you get an pushback Or people disagree with you the assumption is that we are Conservative or Far Right.
Good to know I am not alone in being a centrist around here.
You made an ideological claim about me personally, where you said "a trait most SJWs lack imo" and I "decided to be "GO GO SJW Rangers"". It was baseless and false. Do not now whine, moan, and cry that I am picking on you for calling you on your ideological claim. It does not make me a social justice warrior because I didn't know what the fucking Safety Toolkit was without looking it up and thought it was something else (and I still don't know why anyone cares about free products - I believe in the simple gatekeeping check of CHARGING FOR QUALITY PRODUCTS). It doesn't make me a social justice warrior for thinking that the overall ENnies list might have some value and is not all "garbage" even if it has a few games products in there which are not appealing to me and which are ideological in nature. Your reaction to me is similar to your reaction to the ENnies: over the top.

Hell, that's what I've been saying.
Terry Pratchett once remarked that he felt briefly bad about losing out in the Hugos, but then going home and falling into a big pile of money made things better.

Pratchett is a treasure. And awards are what the losers get for not getting rich. Unless you get rich and the awards, in which case the awards don't really mean much... because you're rich!

I recall reading an interview with Jerry Pournelle where he said something similar. When asked if it bothered him that he'd never won a Hugo despite how popular his books were, he replied that money will get you through the times with no Hugos a lot more comfortably than Hugos will get you through the times with no money.

It's more than that. From the SJW perspective, any outcome is a win for them:
- people buy their thing and play it, thus spreading the infection.
- they distract attention from other games that aren't spreading the infection.
- they infect an existing game and eventually kill the host--more infection spread during the meantime and something that wasn't infected now discredited.
When the main goal is to destroy, then they don't get too picky about what gets destroyed today versus what is set to self-destruct later.

I can verify that Mr. Pournelle did not give two shits about awards. And that he did nicely for his family, money-wise, and had a nice house and cars for it.
He was a lovable cranky bastard who, had he been born in a different era, would have fit in nicely here on this site.

I would agree, but having an award can sometimes be leveraged into more sales.
I don't think that the Ennies specifically have a TON of clout, but they will likely get more people to be aware of your system (even just being nominated as people vote and potentially look up various systems), which will likely end up with at least a few more sales.
Frankly - it seems like the Ennies have too many different categories which overlap too much. If you have too many different Ennie winners, it dilutes any value that such an award would otherwise give.
Plus, having such small sub-categories open to general voting makes it too easy for some of them to be won my concerted voting drives rather than via true merit.

FWIW, I probably never would've heard of that Mork Borg game if it hadn't been for this thread (and the ennie award it won). Now, in my case I wasn't interested enough to buy it or anything, but it did get me to look at it and become aware of it.
Actually, come to think of it, the only time I pay attention the ennies is when they're mentioned on this board. I remember that happening, before (something to do with some Zak nominations, I think). The other places I hang out don't usually talk about them at all.
