Title: Xiang Qi?
Post by: RPGPundit on September 03, 2006, 01:18:21 AM
A.k.a. Chinese Chess... does anyone here play it?

Go has become pretty popular in some circles, but to me Xiang Qi is vastly more interesting to play.  More interesting than normal chess, too.

I've messed around with it a bit.  I've played Xiang Qi online at ItsYourTurn.com and against an AI using Zillions of Games, one of the favorite programs of the ChessVariants.com crew.  I find it more interesting than chess as well, especially the terrain considerations of the river and the castle and the special power of the cannons.

But I'm not really any good at it, just like like occidental chess and every variant I've played.  On two occasions I've taught the rules of play to a sharp boardgamer and they whipped me on the first game.
