While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). From the main page of CCP.

So the MMO is dead which makes it the biggest piece of news to happen with the world of darkness.  Does anyone want to discuss about this?

Was there any doubt it was dead for the past few years? It just makes it official.

I knew it was going to fail since day one.  Feel bad for the 56 people that got laid off.  Though that is about it really.  It just after all these years was a waste.  They could had gone to a better route and made a really good video game.  Make a Neverwinter Nights/Shadowrun Returns type of game that would allow fans to make new content.  Hell a bloodlines 2 would had been a better idea.

I just hope it doesn't screw with Onyx Path in some way they really have the WoD rocking and rolling both CWoD and NWoD.

I hope not.  Are they owned by CCP?

Ladybird

A pity, but really, this seemed inevitable; it'll have sucked up so much cash that it could never be anything other than a financial failure. CCP have cut their losses, probably a few years too late, but better late than never.

Pretty sure not. But CCP does own the name "White Wolf" (IP) so I am not sure if they could do something to mess with them. But Rose Bailey said that nothing is changed via their publishing arraignment with CCP.

Well if they are not owned by CCP and do end up losing world of darkness they can easily have world of darkness like game any ways.  They own Scion and while it is a game about demigods they are building up the second edition differently.  Origins book is going to focus on beings that are lower in the scale and feature options to play as none scions.

No. But OPP licences the WoD and Exalted IP from CCP for its releases (and own Trinity and Scion outright).

CCP and WW merged a few years back. WW wasn't really taken over, but, they effectively were.

Onyx Path license the Vampire, Werewolf, Mage, Exalted etc. properties from CCP for their releases. They're basically the same WW writers, under a different name.

As long as Onyx Path provide enough revenue without too much hassle, I can't see CCP really interfering; the properties would all be forgotten in a few years if they lay dormant. OP may even get more freedom out of it, as now there isn't an MMO they have to worry about contradicting.

It really is more about the 56 people they laid off than Onyx Path. I hope they can rehire some of them given they do everything by kickstarter and PoD anyway.

Sad news, but yeah, hardly a surprise.

They were CCP staff. Other reports have said that some have been reassigned to EVE (Most likely technical staff), and some have been given severance packages.

It's unlikely that Onyx Path would even have any roles for those staff, because OP aren't a video games developer.

Makes sense given the writers are already with OP.

*Sigh*

I was hoping this game would be made in my lifetime.

At least its not as bad as when City of Heroes got murdered by NC soft.
