I've been playing No Man's Sky for the last month or so.

Yes, I heard all about the problems back in the day. But in 2024, the game is pretty well fleshed out, and I've enjoyed it so far.

They have fixed and revamped it so much since then that's it's only nominally the same game.

Still playing No Man's Sky, coming up on the 40 hour mark.

I've certainly gotten my money's worth out of the game, and it's been enjoyable. If all you want is to jump in your starfighter and fly around exploring weird planets, this will certainly scratch that itch.

The major con so far is that not all of the systems in the game mesh together well. You can wind up in the position of owning a star fleet, and still having to stomp around mining basic resources and dumpster diving for artifacts in order to build everyday stuff. It seems like at some point you should transcend the basic grocery-getting of the universe and move on to bigger things, but it doesn't seem to work that way.

Or maybe I just haven't stumbled onto the right plot thread. There are some storylines I don't care about, and have neglected.

Anyway, I recommend the game, it is a good value for the money, but it probably won't make it into my all-time favorites list.

The need to drop down to a planet and do some mining never 100% goes away, but there are lots of items that can be unlocked for bases that will autocollect various items for you. Unfortunately, unlocking all the base object that collect resources requires you go down to planets and mine for resources.

I'd really love to see a No Man's Sky 2, where they take the feature salad that is the first game, and streamline everything so that it works together better and has quality of life improvements.

For instance, there are at least three different systems for building bases: building wall sections, building complete modules, and building with cuboids. None of them really integrate well with the others, and cuboids are kind of a buggy mess.

I've played No Man's Sky to the point where I've become fatigued with it. There are more things I'd like to do with it, but the complexity and the scut work to get to where I can do them makes it not that much fun.

My new game is 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, which is a bit like the Persona games in that you have two games in one: a giant robot fighting sim, and a slice of life high school drama, that connect in various ways. Time travel is involved, as your characters in high school are all having dreams of the future war that they are fighting in the robot sim, but I'm finding the time travel stuff to be enjoyable. It helps that the character designs are nice, and the overall art style in the high school drama part of the game is quite pleasant.

I'm looking at Starcom, Unknown Space for my next purchase. The reviews I've seen look good.

2d topdown space exploration like Elite Dangerous or maybe FTL with the RPG elements?

I just got space marine 2, and it might be over-hyped a little but, but it is damn good fun when I actually get time to sit down and play. Living it so far.

I discovered that I now have a moon buggy in Starfield. This changed everything...for about 10 minutes.

I play Astro Bot, very good game without headache, very detailed, too bad the lifespan is very limited.

Recently picked up the Warhammer 40k Rogue Trader game from HumbleBundle and started a playthrough. I'm about 3 hours in now, which is still in the tutorial mission (I have been going slow and reading all the dialogues, NPC chatter, etc). So far I've encountered at least one Tough-as-Nails Girlboss and one Pseudo-African-Voudou Psyker, so I'm at about 1.5/3 strikes before I put this one down.

If I see an LGBT  or Imperial/Daemon romance crop up I'm going to have to put this one down.

Really got into Path of Achra a while back.  It's a neat turn based fantasy battle game.  Unlocked 100 of 101 achievements, so I certainly got my bang for the buck out of it.

I replayed Elden Ring recently to try and see if I like it enough to spend $40 on the expansion. Turns out I do not. I've also replayed Dark Souls 1 and 2, and some of DS3 and Lords of the Fallen recently, so I'm going on a Soulsborne break. But that leaves me with a 3rd-person action RPG shaped hole in my gaming life, so until Greedfall 2 comes out, I'm on the hunt. I've tried to get into Dragon's Dogma a couple of times and it hasn't stuck, so I think I'm going to range farther afield and finally give Monster Hunter a try.

Darksiders? The Witcher? Dragon Age?

I played the first Darksiders ages ago, but didn't finish it. Should probably give it another try. I have the second and third ones, too. I liked Witcher 2 quite a lot. Witcher 3 was a little bloated and aimless for my taste (and runs like absolute shit on my computer which doesn't help). Dragon Age is one of those series I feel like I should like, but just don't work for me. I can usually only get along with CRPGs if they're turn-based. I tried getting into the Risen games as well, and while they're not bad, I never got more than a few hours into them. Ditto with other Piranha Bites stuff like Elex. Still haven't tried the Gothic games, though.
