Title: The Witcher
Post by: GrimJesta on December 28, 2007, 12:05:50 AM
The combat system sucks despite how much the company talked about how great it'd be, but the game itself is (a) freakin' beautiful, (b) the storyline is cool and well thought out and (c) unlike Fable you really go make decisions that impact the world around you.

Just don't try running this thing on anything but an up-to-date computer. I have a decent enough rig (2.3 ghz processor, 1 GB RAM, ATI HISX1650GT - the video card itself has another 512 of DDR3 RAM on it) and I couldn't run it. I was able to force the game to run through the beginning, but then it kept freezing and crashing. Even with everything turned off it was beautiful to behold.

I just have to get another gig of RAM to play the freakin' thing so it better STAY as good as the beginning. I just wasn't impressed with the much-touted combat system. It was a glorified (thus more annoying to use) Diablo 2 system.

The bad thing is, that if you haven't already read Witcher novels which you probably coundn't if you are not fluent polish, czech or another bizzare european language, you will have spoiled surprise a little bit.

I have The Witcher and love it.  I have yet to see a really good combat system in a first person RPG, so I am less annoyed.

I run it on a AMD 64 3500+, 2 Gigs RAM, nVidia 7600GT on the medium graphic settings.  Looks good and plays well.  Though I hear the later Acts put more graphical stress on your system, so we'll see.

Later acts... more system stress? I'm screwed. It's having only 1 GB of RAM that's hurting me the most, but hopefully I'll have that remedied before the later acts.

Thus far I'm on The Beast and just got my face kicked in. I think I know what I did wrong, so it's time to kick some spectral canine ass. I really like how the choices you make really do affect the game. One just came and bit me in the ass. I was giddy.

The "later Act heavy graphics" is just what I have heard.  I too am at the end of the 1st Act and the Beast is having its way with me.  :)

I need to time my Ard? sign knockdown better and make sure all of my potions are up.  I take the potions in the cave before the confrontation with the villagers, but then I think the game advanaces time.  I have to check.
