Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). Anyone have this book?  Anyone heard of anyone trying to recreate the Taros campaign?

Want to talk military doctrines of the Tau vs. the Imperium and how they translate into real world military whatists?
For you the day you found a minor error in a Post by Spike and forced him to admit it, it was the greatest day of your internet life.  For me it was... Tuesday.

No, I've never heard of this?  Admittedly there aren't any real Tau players in my group.  Is this one of the big campaigns like Storm of Chaos?

Spike

No, its that huge book from Forge World dealing with the Tau vs. the Imperium on... wait for it... Taros.

I had quite a rousing discussion about it about a year and a half ago on the Relic 40k forums, enough to buy the book. It's fairly interesting in how the campaign went down, the differences between doctrines and stratagies was quite interesting.

Navally, the Tau fleet (very small, one carrier and some smaller ships) engaged in supply interdiction piracy and were successful enough at it that the main naval assets were forced to spend months tracking them down for a major showdown in the corona of the sun, the Tau lost the direct conflict, but in the meantime were able to cripple the supply lines for the IG on the surface.

Awesomely it includes things like the Eversor attack that wipes out the Ethereal, the Tau's response theatre wide, and an awesome, if doomed, airborn assault on a water processing plant by the Elysian drop troopers.  About the only real weakness is that a company of Marines were apparently on hand the entire campaign but only participated in two or three engagements... not even including the attack against the Ethereal (which used storm troopers as a diversion) or the Water plant (where the drop troops were systematically wiped out over three days while awaiting reinforcements....)... both situations that scream for SM actions.

It was 80 pounds (don't have the symbol handy), which I think comes in around 120-130 bucks american. Of course, I was all disposable income at the time... I think between the book and the FW crisis suits I shelled out close to 400 dollars.  The joys of a paycheck with no bills and no taxes.

Something I rather miss at the moment.  :(

Ouch.  Not in the month my taxes are due, my wife would flip.

I was deployed at the time... now It's strictly a luxury item... right up there with 'Worlds largest city'... which I do want.

On the other hand, the damn thing is gorgeous. Ten pounds (weight this time) if not more, lots of glossy pictures, details of everything up to and including the manta, titan killing railguns and three seperate two-three page spreads about what a Space Marine, an Elysian Drop Trooper, and A Fire Warrior carry into battle.  Awesome stuff, but the real fun is just how detailed they go into the strategy, the engagements and the history of the entire Taros Campaign... which is excellent fodder for discussion of real world vs. game militaria....:D

Now I'ma need to do an overview (in detail) of the entire campaign to fuel discussion!

spike--OMFG, etc.  where's the "you lucky bastard" smiley when you need one?

now if only one of those forge world books would appear on ebay :haw:

Spike

Don't know if I should count myself lucky. Its so damn cool I really really really want the Tyranid one that should be out now, and I don't have the sort of spending cash to pick that one up...

It's like drugs, once you've tried 'em, it's hard not to go back to the dealer for more....:p
