Title: Mutiple Games at the Same Time?
Post by: Seanchai on October 21, 2008, 12:01:29 PM
Is there something wrong with me? (Beyond the obvious, that is.) It seems like folks are all playing multiple games at the same time. First they play Game A, then they play a little of Game B, then they switch back to Game a, and then they play Game C. I play Game A till I'm done, then switch to Game B and play it until I'm done. Is that weird?

It's not always a choice : say game A works fine when the full group is present and other games are substitute games when people are missing.

Depends on your attention span, but I'd say yes you are more an exception then the norm.  I usually jump around from game to game depending on my mood at the time.  Though usually it's not between two of the same types of game.  I might have a Game of Oblivion on the go but then mix that up with Guitar Hero and Skate.

Depends on the game(s) for me. For RPGs or strategy games I generally prefer to play untill complete, but for FPSes, when you have 30 minutes or so to burn, jumping into a match or two fills the time nicely.

Dude, i don't want the experience to end. I either play open ended games, with different play experiences each time (such as Civ, Europa Universalis, Morrowind, sports sims etc) or i chicken out.

My shameful confession is that i've only ever completed 1 game in my life and that was Icewind Dale. I got to within a gnats ballsack of finishing Baldurs Gate and i suddenly lost interest...Yet, i've started it twice more and never got so far down the line...

It depends.  I still have a game of Rome:Total War outstanding, but in the interim I've fit in Civ and some other games.

Neither way is weird.  I tend to do both at times.  If I get burned out on a game I'll put it down and come back to it, otherwise I like to finish one before I fire up another.

Some have features like coop that I might only play when a particular friend is around so we can play together.  In those situations I'll play other games when I'm by myself.

As an avid gamer who is tuned into the hype/media in videogames. I want to play them ALL dammit.

I actually wish I had the fortitude of only being able to play one game at a time until I'm done...it would save me a lot of money!

October is killing me BTW with something close to 9 games I want to buy.

Hmmmn. Thinking about it, I have played Guitar Hero and another game. I had to boot up Fable II to see what it's all about, even though I'm not quite finished with Star Wars. I returned to Star Wars and want to finish it up before heading back to Fable.

Just thinking back to real story games that I specifically remember finishing.

Several of the old Gold Box D&D games for the CM64 (Curse of the Azure bonds etc..)
Baulder's Gate 1 & 2
Icewind dale 1 & 2
Shadowrun - Sega Genesis version
Morrowind, finished it but not by actually following the story really.  Just kinda got there by accident.
Silent Hill 2, 4
Crimson Skies PC & Xbox
KOTOR 1 & 2
Jade Empire
GUN
Resident Evil 4
Oblivion - actually following the story. Tried some expansions after, got bored with them.

There are probably a few others that I've forgotten, but it would be because they didn't stand out as memorable to me.  Then there are others that I got close but just got bored or frustrated with in the 11th hour and never bothered to finish.

Frustration would be the reason for my multi-game play.  Sometimes you're wondering around, not solving the puzzles, or getting to the next scene as fast as you would like, and then here comes the black cloud of profanity.  I tend to get easily pissed off, so I will make a change to another game and come back to that one later.  It's nice to have a change of scenery once in a while.

I just play whatever strikes my fancy at the time.

I have near 1000 different games in my collection, so I have a lot of variety to choose from.
