Got this a few days ago from the Steam sale they are having. Fun game so far, kind of like a dark ages Pirates. It's pure feudal sim without any fantasy and the mounted combat is a blast. Anybody else playing this? Here's a link to the website. (http://www.taleworlds.com/)
I got it like 2 months ago and it's still sitting on my hard drive. I forgot I had it, I might try it when I get home.
I played the demo version and quite liked it, even though it was pretty limited n scope. I haven't seen the upgraded version though.
Been playing this for years. Absolutely superb. You really need to grab some of the free mods though to make the best of it as otherwise its a little too vanilla.
I've found it's quite easy to make massive amounts of money in the early game by traveling from tournament to tournament and betting heavily on yourself the whole while. You can make 4000 $ per tournament, which lets you buy all that nice armor you've doubtlessly been drooling over.
Also, Khergit Khanate FTW. Nothing like charging a hapless line of archers with a bunch of pseudoMongols on horseback. Ah, sweet slaughter.

You have to realise it's the work of just one guy. Given that, it's pretty wide in scope. Most computer games like it would have teams of dozens of people working on them.
So where it does really well is where the work of other people come in. There's a strong modding community who've added a lot to the game in graphics and gameplay. You download the game and then choose a mod. The ordinary game is called "Native", I tend to play "Native expansion" which has things like morale, influenced by how many are getting killed and the sudden appearance of reinforcements or enemy, and so on.
I quite enjoy it. Like
Fallout, it's one of the few computer games that has genuine rpg elements, in that you're not railroaded down a particular storyline, and how your character reacts to NPCs and what they do affects different NPCs' attitudes to them. Of course it's very limited in its roleplaying aspects, but that's because computers are stupid.
It helps get me through the long, long week between game sessions :)
