Title: Mordheim
Post by: Angry_Douchebag on September 16, 2010, 02:43:46 PM
Are there any fantasy miniatures rulesets available that fill the niche that Mordheim did?  I played the game quite a lot in the late nineties and thought it might be a fun diversion for my son and I.  There still seems to be a fair amount of playable gear available for it and the rules are available as a pdf.  That said, I have never really be that big of a fan of GW's over-the-top sort of tongue in cheek settings.  Is there a generic set of rules for warband style mini gaming?

I have run Mordheim via Savage World.  It works fine, but you miss out on the GW gonzo that really adds a fun flavor that I missed.

Song of Blades and Heroes is what we use for small fantasy skirmish these days... warband against warband... very generic but also fairly simple.
We also play Confrontation 3/Dogs of War when the right guys show up and want something a bit more involved.

I've also seen people recommend Chaos in Carpathia Link (http://www.bluemoonmanufacturing.com/view_product.php?product=RULE-01) and/or Chaos in Cairo Link (http://www.bluemoonmanufacturing.com/view_product.php?product=Rule-03) ... supposedly you can mix and match all the 'Chaos' games for crazy skirmish fun.
