So for christmas I purchased a Wii for my wife, and several games and accessories for her, and my 7 year old daughter. Although I was a little miffed at the cost of accessories, and games I was pretty impressed with game play and graphics, as well as how customizable the thing is.
So when we finally got it online I checked out the Wii store, and what do I see? A lot of classic titles that I loved as a kid, and teenager. So this evening I snagged a Wii points card and downloaded four classic titles. (Super Mario Brothers 3, Sonic 2, Zelda 2 and my personal favorite Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest.)
And that is how the Wii stole my heart. As I sit here my seven year old is kicking tail at Mario 3, loving every minute of it. So yeah I am going to have my free time taken up by being a colossal nerd!
It is, indeed, an awesome console. :)
Which Wii games did you get?
Right now we have the following:
Animal Crossing's City Folk
Blazing Angels (A WWII flying simulator)
The Incredible Hulk
Super Mario Galaxy Adventure
Mushroom Men
Wii Sports Package
Need for Speed Pro Street
The Mummy Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
I also downloaded three NES titles, and one Sega title from the Wii Shop channel:
Castlevania II: Simon's Quest
SuperMario World 3
Legend of Zelda II
and
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Of the Wii titles I like SuperMario Galaxy, and Animal Crossing's the best-so far. The others are a little week, in various ways. (Need for Speed doesn't have a free play mode, neither does the Incredible Hulk-which sucks.)
I had almost the same reaction as you. I figured the Wii was for my son, and I've been looking forward to picking up an XBox 360 for myself. Then I found the classic Nintendo games...
I'm still getting the Xbox, but I sneak time on the Wii when my son's not around.
edit: I think it's awesome that the wiimote works like a classic controller.
I hope you don't terribly mind if I move this to the electronic games forum.
Not at all.
A common complaint I seem to be hearing, from a few people anyways, is that the Wii's graphic's are cartoonish, and frankly I agree that this can be problematic. (Not always, obviously-some games like Mario and Zelda, and the like don't lose anything by not being photo realistic.) Does anyone know if the Wii will be doing any of the Grand Theft series?
i dont think it can handle the size of the more recent gta's but i think theres a chance of something similar to the psp and ds gta games coming to wii or maybe the classic gta's will appear on the store eventually.
I didn't find Resident Evil to be cartoonish. But remember - Nintendo is a "family" company - they sanitize what they can, and only in recent years have realized their customer base isn't just 7-12 year olds anymore.
I love my Wii. I've been a fangirl of nintendo since the beginning, and will continue to be one :)
I highly recommend No More Hero's for the Wii, very fun and stylized action/killing game.
Also Boom Blox is a must have probably one of the best games of the year for any console in the family entertainment category.
