This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Here have fun with this insanity.

Quote from: Jack P;655825Don't listen to that guys bullshit review. All the rolls use the same scale. 10 is average.

All ROLLS use the same scale (a single d20) but every SKILL and ATTRIBUTE and PROFICIENCY are rated on an independent scale. Some are 1-3, some are 3-30, some are 1-10. Compare, to, say Interlock where all skills are 1-10, or Silhouette where all attributes are -5 to +5. All skills cost the same per level, all attributes cost the same per level.

Look, I'm sorry about your butthurt, there might be some cream that take somes of the burn away. The game doesn't measure up to its mostly self-generated hype. The publisher was provided a copy of the review before it was published. I wanted to like the game, but there are serious issues I have with the book as written. Especially when compared to more modern contenders for the post-cyberpunk crown like Nova Praxis and Eclipse Phase. So...sorry?

Quote from: Bloody Stupid Johnson;655564Apologies if its there and I'm just illiterate, but whats the core mechanic of this thing?
The attributes on all different scales is quite Synnibarrean, but how are they managing one core mechanic with that, different modifier tables?

Single d20 + attribute + proficiency. The skills offer various tasks that can be accomplished without a roll. So Level 25 Telecommunications the character can gain maintenance access to medium security systems. Level 150 can write low security software. Level 1000 can gain root directory access to ultra-high security systems. Every skill has a chart like that.

Gotta agree with Rincewind1, that does sound like Synnibar.

Thanks for the info.

1000 with a d20+bonuses? Wacky. Thanks for clarifying anyway.

The attributes and proficiencies provide bonuses for the rolls. The skills don't, they indicate what you can do without rolling. See, simple?

Also, I forgot to thank our sock like friend for the probability lesson. And here I thought d20 had a median result of 10.5, but not an average because a single die has no results curve. Silly me!

The publisher wouldn't approve a review like that. Get real! Every roll for every attribute and every proficiency has 10 as the average value. You never have a D20 + 2 or D20 +30 situation unless they are handicapped or superhuman. 0-9 is always worse than normal and 11+ is always above average.

This thread just went into the Bat Country. We can't stop here!

So Will, do you add a 1000 to D20 or don't? I mean, are skills same as proficiencies or what? :D
Furthermore, I consider that  This is Why We Don\'t Like You thread should be closed

1) I gave the publisher the text of the review. That is not the same as asking for or getting approval. It was to correct factual errors. They found one: the page count. That means the factual portions of the review are accurate, the rest is opinion. You know, how a review should be.

2) Give me the page number in the player's guide that says 10 is the target number. Because I can't find it.

And you wonder why I didn't play test it? I did them a kindness, the review would have been worse if I had.

I'm going to give you a piece of advice: you're not helping. You should reconsider your approach to these conversations.

You don't. Skills and proficiencies are separate. The skill levels provide what the character is capable of, the proficiencies add to the roll.

If my understanding is wrong, it would be the fault of the rules. This game's not Exalted, if the rules can't clearly communicate how it's played that's not my fault nor my responsibility.
