Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). Just picked up Betrayal at House on the Hill by WOTC at the suggestion of my local game store. Was looking for something I could play with my uncle, who loves board games, but more traditional stuff like Risk, Stratego and Parchese. So he isn't really a gamer. But seeing that he is a horror movie fan this looked like a good bet (looks pretty simple as well).

Will try to post info if I get a chance to play this week (we have to get through some other games before I will have an opportunity).

It's a great board game. Easy to play, loads of fun and quite creepy. The traitor mechanic is awesome for variety and also it removes a lot of the competitiveness from the game (in a good way). Some scenarios can be unbalanced as a resul though, so don't lose heart if you have a bad game.

FWIW if you like Betrayal, you may also want to check out Mansions of Madness. I find the are similar, with Mansions being a more RPG like experience.

We have played the crap out of Betrayal. And yes, some scenarios are skewed for the Explorers or the Traitors, and sometimes the layout of the mansion can screw one side or the other.

We've often felt that the overall randomness of the whole thing kinda removes any issues we have with balance.

This is probably an unnecessary caution at this point, but in case you got a copy of the first WotC printing: When you pop out the cardboard pieces, use thick rubber bands or heavy books to keep them pressed together for at least 72 hours.

The first printing of the game had a manufacturing problem that resulted in the pieces warping. It has since been fixed and you probably don't have a first printing if you just bought it; but this tip saved my set from becoming unusable so I thought I'd pass it on.

Re: The game itself. It's good stuff. Very good for the type of casual play it sounds like you're planning to use it for.

Thanks for the caution. I think my printing is safe. The ony problem I ran into was my own doing when I was too aggressive pulling one of the cardboard pieces causing the surface to rip off.
