Info about it here (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/18985) and here. (http://www.yourmovegames.com/battleground_index.html)
Basically, it plays like a minis game, but uses cards instead of miniatures. I haven't played it yet.
Pros:
- Extremely cheap to get into. I mean, ludicrously. The units are cards, but there's no random element to the distribution. Each army has a Starter Deck ($10-$15, depending on where you get it); if you buy that, you're in. Period. If you buy a similarly-priced Reinforcement Deck, you're done collecting that army and have a much wider range of options to field.
- Very clean. You keep track of unit damage and standing orders with a dry-erase marker.
- Each card generally has a large number of units on it, adding to the "feast at Burger King" feel of this game.
- It looks like it would be fun to play.
- I can make a Rat Army if I play Undead, which rules.
Cons:
- Terribly generic name and factions. I spent an afternoon looking it up online and I kept forgetting the name because it was so damn dull. The factions are similarly vanilla: generic humans, generic elves, generic orcs, generic undead, generic dwarves, African tribal humans, lizardmen. Every once in a while you'll see something inspired, like the undead Abomination, but for the most part it's very plain Jane.
- Chintzy CGI art and very plain-looking packs. Ugh.
My LGS actually had this on hand, but I had never noticed because my eyes slid right off the packaging. Now I MUST FIND someone to play my Rat Deck against.
Has anybody played this?
