Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). One Horse Town

So, i've dusted this off for the first time since about 2000 and it's quite shocking how much i remember about it. I never got any of the follow ups, so the plan is this time to get the 4in1 BG pack and load them up once i've finished the original.

Currently i'm getting fried a lot by Kobolds with bloody Flame Arrows. Kobolds! Most dangerous buggers i've faced so far and my party is now 3rd and 4th level.

I got some Ankheg armour made up for my main guy (can't remember being able to do that 1st time round) and it's bloody good. AC 1 and half the weight of platemail.

My name is Ramón Nogueras. Running now Vampire: the Masquerade (Giovanni Chronicles IV for just 3 players), and itching to resume my Call of Cthulhu campaign (The Sense of the Sleight-of-Hand Man).

Baldur's Gate was instrumental to my interest in RPGs. Recently I just finished playing Baldur's Gate 2 for the umpteenth time...

Enjoy it! There is no doubt that the rest of the series will hold your attention and sense of adventure as well as the first has.

I recently played the 'enhanced' version of BG, and it was kicking my ass. :)

It's like playing 1E dnd with an utterly ruthless gm.

Great fun though.

Obsidian is making a Baldurs gate 2 style rpg now; I can't wait!!!!

There's an increasing number of assholes on the internet who insist that not only do classics die but that they were never true classics to begin with and you are objectively wrong to have liked them. They will then go on to prove their point with a 3000-word essay / 30 minute youtube video debunking each "flaw" in turn.

I hate the modern internet.

One of my favorite tricks in BG was to cast as many Animate Dead spells as possible at once and flood monsters with craploads of skeletons.

I loved making armies of summoned creatures in BG2.

But remember, we are objectively wrong to have enjoyed those games :)

The Baldur's Gate trilogy (BG1+BG2+ToB) is the best CRPG of all time.  It's the next best thing to playing a tabletop RPG with a great group.

I've been replaying the BG games using the recently released 'Enhanced' versions (BGEE and BG2EE).  It's great to be able to play these classic games -- with some very helpful upgrades and additional characters -- on my mac.

The few occasions that I've managed to finish the entire serious with the same character (only twice, 10+ years ago, although I'm coming up on my third 'completion' now), I've felt a crazy sense of accomplishment.

Good times! :)

The iPad versions are also quite nice.

Did the enhanced BG2 get released?

Yes, it was released in late November.

There are some bugs, especially in the new areas (i.e., areas not included in the original), but nothing game breaking.  I've found the necessary 'fixes' (files to put in the override folder) for my game at the official forum (via Google).

Mirror image, fireball on your own head, win. Solo mage worked really well.

I always played this with two friends during holidays. One was the fighter, one the mage and the third played cleric/thief. We pretty much invented the tank, DPS and healer long before any MUMORPUGER did it.
May I say that? Yes, I may say that!

You are right. Luckily for me, I have maxed out my skill in Not Giving A Single Fuck About Internet Opinions, which have served me well and protected me against many of those bnoxious hazards. So, I go on my merry way replaying my beloved classics with the aditional perk of knowing that someone, somewhere, is losing his shit because they know people are playing and loving those games :D

While we're on the subject, I found this article from a developer of Baldur's Gate II about what did and did not work in the sequel-making process. It has some intriguing insights into both video game and RPG design:
