This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

What does this mean, you think?  Anyone hear anything?

High-res logo and music...I doubt a fan would be able to get their hands on the domain name, but I guess it's always a possibility.
"In a way, the Lands of Dream are far more brutal than the worlds of most mainstream games. All of the games set there have a bittersweetness that I find much harder to take than the ridiculous adolescent posturing of so-called \'grittily realistic\' games. So maybe one reason I like them as a setting is because they are far more like the real world: colourful, crazy, full of strange creatures and people, eternal and yet changing, deeply beautiful and sometimes profoundly bitter."

I read someplace -- Kotaku, I think -- about Bioware looking to do something with the franchise again. I don't think it necessarily means new games, as the article also mentioned how the Infinity Engine would have a great home on devices like the iPad.

Pretty sure there will be an announcement pretty soon. I'll have to dig up a link.

And while my phone is an important tool for my daily life, it is not a life-saving device that KEEPS MY HEART FROM EXPLODING. Fuck, Tony. Get your shit together, pal."

Well, if option A (BG remake for tablets/smartphones) is true, then it's somewhere between meh and yay.

If option B (new game) is true, then nerdgasm.

And, y'know, with 5e in full swing and license for games coming back, a new BG would be a nice marketing stunt...
Furthermore, I consider that  This is Why We Don\'t Like You thread should be closed

Using Chrome, if you right click and pick Inspect Element, you can spot a few quotes someone left for the curious:

"She left me to die. YOU left me to die. But Shar... Shar wanted me to live."

"If you wish me dead, brother, it must be by your hand. No one else."

There is also a time stamp (March 5, 2012).

Someone secured the domain name and put that page as a placeholder. Interesting times ahead... :D

Oh yeah.  Especially when you add in the fact that Fargo is talking about doing a Wasteland 2 kickstarter.

Even the the "cutting edge" storygamers for all their talk of narrative, plot, and drama are fucking obsessed with the god damned rules they use. - Estar

Yes, Sean Connery\'s thumb does indeed do megadamage. - Spinachcat

"Tangency Edition" D&D would have no classes or races, but 17 genders to choose from. -TristramEvans

MAN.............

I loves me some Baldur's Gate...

Benoist

The page CHANGED.

Music changed, and now there is a TIMER on it. The Official Dungeons & Dragons page on Facebook just posted this with a link to the BG page: "Seen this timer? Make sure you head over to baldursgate.com for an exciting announcement at noon pacific."

This is today... 2 hours and 20 minutes from now, almost precisely.

two_fishes

I suspect we'll see an announcement about the launch of a new MMO to be released in synch with the next edition of table-top D&D.

Benoist

It could be something not-so-exciting (to me) like BG on iPhone or whatnot.

We'll see, I guess.

If it does involve resurrecting the Infinity Engine, I don't see a new game coming, maybe re-release of old games, and port to new stuff like phones.

Edit: Well we know whoever it is doesn't have the most adroit webmaster. :D

I was just gonna say... looks like it's crashed.

Benoist

LOL Site crash?

Apparently it's Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition.
