Title: 5 Parsecs from Home, my thoughts

I got this game a few weeks ago, and have been running it.

It's a solo wargame with "AI" for enemy units, and a lot of roleplay-lite-rpg-ish decision making regarding your crew, equipment, mission selection, and recurring Patrons and Rivals.

The game itself is pretty simple, D6 roll over target number. There is some "leveling", using xp to increase stats and abilities.
Having played 4 turns so far, the game is pretty forgiving. I've had two crewmembers spend time in sick bay. Characters only have a small chance to die if the become casualties during a battle, and Story Points can buy a re-roll to potentially save a doomed character.
This makes the game pretty easy, even with a lot of enemies. I did get the first expansion, that has Elite versions of the enemy encounters. I plan to start including them in my games because I feel like it's a bit too easy, especially as my crew spends xp and gets better gear.

I heartily reccomend. It's a lot like creating a story out of random rolls in a table top RPG. Why are the Street Gangers fighting us? This Patron sends us to retrieve a package. What is it? Why do they want it? You can fill in those details if you like, name the planets you explore, and explain your latest Quest and how it fits into the Campaign.

It's on my to-play list.  Since I don't have the budget/space for minis, I plan to use Tabletop Simulator which has a fantastic selection of minis for sci-fi tactical skirmish games.
