I like to play rpg games, but prefer the graphics to be 2d. Any recommendations?
Flash type games like AdventureQuest were a thing when I was a child, but IDK if those even exist now, and even if they did they'd probably still be targeted towards a younger demographic.
I can think of plenty of primarily text based games that are technically rpgs, but that's not really 2D. Some visual novels probably exist that are rpgs.
Not really my area of expertise I guess, but hopefully somebody else can give you better recommendations. If not, I could try expanding on the above.
I assume games with mobility within an environment that is roughly 3 dimensional, like Planescape Torment, are not what you are asking for.
I like 2d based rpg games like ff1 to 6. Not 7, as it is 3d.
Have you tried the classic non-"Final Fantasy" console games like "Chrono Trigger"?
There's a 2D PC RPG coming out called "World of Anterra", imitating the "Ultima" series and apparently following the Kickstarter tradition of being way late.
I used to play a lot of "Kingdom of Loathing". Haven't played the spinoffs yet but there are two of them now: "West of Loathing" and "Shadows Over Loathing". Stick-figure graphics, lots of humor.
If you can define RPGs loosely, maybe try "Westerado: Double Barreled", an open-world Western game in 2D pixel graphics.
I would recommend Arcanum: of MSteamworks and Magic Obscura. One of my beloved games. Altough I must warn You - fight system is rather meh.
