This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Westwater B/X retroclone launched!

Back in the early 80s, my gaming group decided to take Tom Moldvay's B/X rules and houserule them into a wild west setting.  We had Boot Hill at the time, but we preferred the streamlined rules of B/X.  Additionally, it was very easy to take our B/X characters and import them into a wild west setting easily.

This Kickstarter project is bringing those rules to the masses, so to speak.  The fundraising goal is to get enough money for professional interior artists.

The game itself is meant to support various playstyles, from having options to play a historically accurate emulation, or a full fledged fantasy setting.  There are a few minor houserules from B/X, such as the baseline combat mechanic is THAC0, but also includes a guide to easily convert this to an ascending AC if preferred.

So help support this, and get a great project in return!

D&D is not an "everyone gets a ribbon" game.  If you\'re stupid, your PC will die.  If you\'re an asshole, your PC will die (probably from the other PCs).  If you\'re unlucky, your PC may die.  Point?  PC\'s die.  Get over it and roll up a new one.

"Well worth reading."  -- Steve Winter

"...seriously nifty stuff..." -- Bruce Baugh

"[Erik is] the Carrot-Top of role-playing games." -- Jared Sorensen, who probably meant it as an insult, but screw that guy.

Since it's a B/X retroclone, the guns are largely treated like any other ranged weapon.  However, there are two differences to account for.

The first is loading.  It takes one full round to reload a weapon that uses cartridges.  It takes two full rounds to load a muzzle loaded black powder weapon.

The second difference is that since no one wears armor, a balance is in place to account for the AC of those who would normally be in armor for B/X.  The way this is done is from cover.  Light cover gives a -2 bonus to AC, medium cover gives -4, and heavy cover grants a -8 bonus to AC.
