I'm struggling with this sales pitch. It's different because we call magic points rune points. We also have passions...

I'm seriously not anti RQG but when the guy from the company can't sell it to you without using market blurb...

OK, it's not for you Horus, got that.

Anyone else can download the Free PDF of the forthcoming RuneQuest Quickstart when it is available on July 1st, or look into getting a free copy of the printed version at your FLGS as part of Free RPG day (if they are participating) on June 17th. Each participating store will have 10 copies of it.

In the mean time, the RQ Design Notes series give a good overview of where the game is going, and what the similarities and differences are from previous editions. Including how rune points are quite different to magic points/theism of the TDM edition (passions are handled in a similar way though).

TBH I'm hoping the QuickStart gives me something. I've a lot of interest in Glorantha but if I can't get a simple answer to how magic points and rune points differ or how the use of passions will be implemented I'm not sure there's enough substance to get me interested.

The latest blog gave some interesting info but still not seeing the difference in Rune and magic points. Unless your on about the method of renewal.

Thanks for moving it over to the right place. It's nice to see Chaosium is considered "reputable" again:)

Same here. So far it's looking like a solid "pass" from me. I'll look into the quickstart though.

Probably a pass for me as well. I'm a huge BRP fan, but not big on Glorantha at all. Mythras and Openquest... older Chaosium products... lots to keep me busy.

Spinachcat

I am not seeing the sizzle...

...and I've bought a crapton of Chaosium books over the decades so I'm a target proven customer.

What is Chaosium offering RQ players they don't already have with previous editions?

For Glorantha fans, what's gonna be there that hasn't already been published?

For D100 fans, what's new system-wise to justify the cash?

Especially in the age when the Mythras crew, the OpenQuest crew and others are making D100 / BRP flavored games?

I am also interested in the Magic Point vs. Rune Point.

Is it something new or just renaming how POW was allocated differently for Battle & Spirit Magic vs. the Rune Magic gained from cults?

Quote from: MOB;955897This is the cover of the RuneQuest Quickstart, which will be released on Free RPG Day (June 17). The art is a homage to Luise Perrine's much-loved cover for the classic 2nd edition of the RuneQuest rules. It's by Andrey Fetisov, who also illustrated our Call of Cthulhu: The Coloring Book.

Was the plan to remind us how Perrine did a far better job?

BTW, here's the front and back covers of the Quickstart, just finished:

Ouch!
Though, to be honest, I'm kinda underwhelmed by this new art... maybe it's just a placeholder?
Meanwhile, the Mythras version is mighty nice:

No worries, we love it and we've always thought Pascal Quidalt's cover is pretty damn awesome too. They are both homages to Luise Perrine's much-loved original from RQ1&2.

This is the RQ1 cover (1978) that started it.

I agree, the new artwork is a pretty bad fit for Runequest. It's rather cartoony and kitschy; all three characters look like distilled cliches.

I like Fetisov's CoC illustrations much better--you should turn him loose stylistically.

Art-wise, I like it best of the three, and I am among the few people in this thread that haven't seen the original game:). Too bad that it's also the one where the character is in the worse situation, the way I see it.

Content-wise remains to be seen;).

Also, is there a reason why you avoided my question?
Why would I* want to "get rid of the Special effects"? What do I, as a GM or player, gain by reducing at once the realism and the variety of events in the game?

*I mean, I do know at least part of what Chaosium gains by it. You gain backwards-compatibility with RQ2, which, given the KS, seems to be your strongest seller, which makes strong financial sense for you. My question is why I would want to follow suit, and what would I gain to compensate for the reduced realism and variety:D!

I'm actually liking the new art, prefer the Mythras cover but I do like it.

I've decided to post on BRP, if I get any answers to the questions asked here I'll cross post them

Quote from: HorusArisen;955928How are rune points different from magic points?

I took a quick look at the blog posts MOB linked and it looks to me like Rune Points are functionally identical to the Devotional Pool in Mythras.  i.e., You go to the temple, participate in a ceremony and sequester some of your Magic Points as Devotional Pool/Rune Points.  Then you go out and use the DP/RP to power divine magic without drawing on your normal MP (yay!), but your DP/RP won't automatically regenerate (boo!), so once you spend it, it's gone until you return to the temple and participate in another ceremony.
