Title: Lyonesse is Now Available!
Post by: Loz on May 01, 2020, 05:09:06 AM
Based on the award winning fantasy trilogy by one of Science Fiction and Fantasy's greatest wordsmiths, Lyonesse transports you to the Elder Isles, where King Casmir plots to seize control of the Ten Kingdoms, assassinate his foes, and prevent a disturbing prophecy from being fulfilled. Elsewhere, the magicians Shimrod, Murgen, and Tamurello are locked in a private battle of wit, will and magical intrigue. All the while, the brutal, disdainful Ska are drawing their own plans of conquest.

And in the immense Forest of Tantrevalles, the secretive fairies watch all that happens with wry amusement, and occasionally meddle in mortal affairs for reasons of their own.

Players in Lyonesse take on the roles of adventurers of the Elder Isles, seeking fame, glory, profit, magic, or simply the promise of a good meal and a soft bed for the night. Characters can be mercenaries or spies in the service of one (or several) kingdoms;*oath-sworn knights eager to do battle with their*lord's enemies; thieves, tricksters or even honest*merchants, out to make a just living (sometimes). Perhaps characters are aspiring magicians, keen to emulate the likes of Shimrod, Tamurello, or even the mighty Murgen himself.

Lyonesse is a complete roleplaying game. This book contains everything needed (except dice*and friends) for creating fabulous adventures in the Elder Isles. Exhaustive information on the kingdoms and lands of the islands; full rules for*characters, skills, combat, magic, and monsters.

Great care has been taken to recreate the style and atmosphere of Jack Vance's novels, so that Games Masters and Players can fully immerse themselves in the Lyonesse setting. Special rules for creating towns, taverns, tavernkeeper, and even lovingly described meals are all included, emulating the quintessential elements of the books.

Don your armour! Take up your weapons! Sharpen your wits! Get ready for adventure across Hybras and beyond!

We're delighted to announce that Lyonesse, the roleplaying game based on Jack Vance's award-winning trilogy (Suldrun's Garden, The Green Pearl, and Madouc) is available to buy from our DrivethruRPG store (https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/309521/Lyonesse-Fantasy-Roleplaying-Based-on-the-Novels-by-Jack-Vance) in Print+PDF versions.

We're offering the game in hardcover and softcover formats. The softcover is slightly cheaper than the hardcover (and yes the prices really are meant to be that close - one of the quirks of POD publishing), and both formats are Print On Demand, largely because in these uncertain times, we do not know how long it will take our regular printer to get back to normal operations, and our distributor, Alliance, is still closed for business.

The book costs $79.99 (hard cover), $74.99 (soft), or $25 (PDF only). You also received a free download of the main interior maps at full size, regardless of the format you buy.

For UK, Europe and Australian customers, Aeon Games will also be producing Lyonesse, and you should keep an eye on their store (http://www.aeongamespublishing.co.uk/) for release details.

In which Inwils and the InCrowd find themselves In High Dudgeon, with me in the GM's chair.

Beware! Contains spoilers for a forthcoming Lyonesse adventure.

Part Two of the Lyonesse scenario 'In High Dudgeon' play through, featuring Loz, Inwils and the InCrowd, is now on YouTube.

Sir Jedny of Thrusk Donkey Jousts for the first time (how does he fare?); The Festive Fellows investigate the local blacksmith; Serfod encounters a stranger cloaked in sunlight (and gains a new admirer); and a confrontation in the tavern leads to some rather entertaining violence involving tankards.

Tune in to discover more...

And Lyonesse is currently #1 in the DTRPG Best Sellers. Hit the coveted spot on its first day or release, and is still there after 3 days...

Can't wait for the European release. I am currently doing a reread of the trilogy, too!

I love the Lyonesse novels...but did you really make a typo in the name of your company on the front cover of the book? Seriously?

Did you buy this game? I'm currently considering but the whole typo thing + pricing. According to the video the book from dtrpg printer was a proof copy. This should have been checked before release, no? Typos in title/company name is a big no no. Is there a demo?

That's not a typo, it's a botched print. Either from Drivethru or from the source file. Hopefully the former.

I did not; just looking at the cover on DriveThru.

It's a shifted graphic, not a typo. It doesn't affect the print edition.

Alright so what's going on with your book?

Someone at dtrpg wrote -
"I just purchased this title and got a 3-page map pack, and nothing else. Did I misunderstand the description? I was expecting "a complete role-playing game"

You realize we are in the midst of a global crisis right? Why the fuck is someone giving you $25+ and not getting what they paid for? And Are you doing a Q&A with Dan yes or no?

QuoteAlright so what's going on with your book?

It's currently the #1 title on Drivethru, and has been since day of launch.

QuoteSomeone at dtrpg wrote -

The purchase comes with two files: the main PDF, and a PDF of maps with the game. It looks like the customer has only downloaded the maps and not the game. No one else has reported such issue, and I'm certain they would have, pretty quickly, if we were deliberately ripping people off. I've checked the files: all are present and correct. So perhaps the customer simply misintepreted the files available, or there was a technical error. I'm not sure, but it's not that there's anything wrong with our book.

QuoteYou realize we are in the midst of a global crisis right?

No shit. Thanks for pointing that out.

QuoteWhy the fuck is someone giving you $25+ and not getting what they paid for?

They're not. We treat all our customers exceptionally well. See my note above. If, however, you have evidence that we're clearly a shitty company and ripping everyone off, please come forward with it. If not, don't make accusations based on a single post on DTRPG's comments page that likely has a simple, logical explanation.

QuoteAnd Are you doing a Q&A with Dan yes or no?

That's something I'll discuss with Dan, not you.

Dear Loz, here are your answers.

It's currently the #1 title on Drivethru, and has been since day of launch.

You're simply #1 for the profit, it's a temporary thing. The sooner another more expensive "quality" product comes in you start sliding. The book has consistant artwork, I myself considered purchasing it up to now.

Can I ask you a question? Tell me, what's your logical explanation to stick your nose in my business?
A few day ago you wrote on my New Horizon Development Thread... (https://www.therpgsite.com/showthread.php?40735-New-Horizon-Development-Coming-Q1-2020/page36)

"Can I ask a question? The emails inviting people to submit titles for this year's ENNIES have only just gone out, and the deadline for submissions (you complete a submissions form first, then send copies) has been extended until 2nd May. Have you somehow been able to send the (unknown) judges copies of your game several months ahead of everyone else? If so, how?"

Shouldn't you fix your typos and files before sticking your nose in peoples businesses? Were you insinuating I was somehow doing something behind the curtains? If you have any evidence of that, please come forward with it. (Hope you're not trying to lure my 25k+ viewers by indirectly whoring your product in my thread, should've turned your signature off.)

That's something I'll discuss with Dan, not you.
Don't be shy! I'm sure that chat would be full of people willing to learn more about your latest release. It's a overnight best seller after all.

Regards,
Felix, J.

I'm under no illusions that we won't be #1 forever. We're simply enjoying it while it lasts; a nice reward for all the authors and artists who spent two and half years working on this project.

QuoteShouldn't you fix your typos and files before sticking your nose in peoples businesses? Were you insinuating I was somehow doing something behind the curtains?

I wasn't insinuating anything underhand at all. I was very curious as to how you'd managed to get your game before the Ennie judges so early, given that I received an email from the Ennie organisers only a few days before. Genuine curiosity. And as for typos... perhaps take a look at your own previews before telling others what to do?

QuoteIf you have any evidence of that, please come forward with it.

You explained yourself, and I'm fine with that.

Quote(Hope you're not trying to lure my 25k+ viewers by indirectly whoring your product in my thread, should've turned your signature off.)

Why would I? We have an excellent customer base of our own, built over 10 years of solid hard work.

I see... Well in this case what you did still not okay. That's how misinformation spreads. You've been in the business for 10 years, shouldn't you know better?

It was a perfectly reasonable question to ask given what you said: "I'm glad the judges had several months to play NH." My question was related to how they've had several months. Nothing more.

I think your question was more like,

Inflammatory.
