SPECIAL NOTICE
Malicious code was found on the site, which has been removed, but would have been able to access files and the database, revealing email addresses, posts, and encoded passwords (which would need to be decoded). However, there is no direct evidence that any such activity occurred. REGARDLESS, BE SURE TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS. And as is good practice, remember to never use the same password on more than one site. While performing housekeeping, we also decided to upgrade the forums.
This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Champions of ZED is the first and only comprehensive Sandbox edition of the world's first fantasy RolePlaying game! Champions of ZED weaves together the scattered rules and intentions of original game authors Dave Arneson and Gary Gygax, including revisions drawn from the long lost Beyond This Point Be Dragons manuscript.

CoZ is built from the ground up for sanbox play, following the methods of the original game. It hearkens to a time when players built their fantasy worlds together, one hex at a time, when vanilla settings from far off publishing houses simply did not exist; when a handful of dice and creative minds crafted and conquered worlds of their own.

Isn't "Balrog" the property of the Tolkien Estate, which is why its mention was excised from the original game as well as the instances of the word "Hobbit"? I would be careful about not including references to these types of specific properties, if I were you.

Several of the original game's playtesters in both Lake Geneva and and Saint Paul/Minneapolis played Balrog characters thus the reason for mentioning it on the Kickstarter page (and here, for that matter), and yes, the word is indeed the intellectual property of the Tolkien estate.  Just to be clear, CoZ is very careful to make no infringements on any of the intellectual property of the Tolkien estate or any other entity.  :)

CoZ is well past the initial funding goal now :D  and we have a stretch goal in place offering a classic old school adventure by Crossbones(TM) and Wild West(TM) game designer Gerald D. Seypura!  Dr. Seypura has been playing and designing adventures for D&D since the birth of the game and it is an honor to have him onboard!
