She likes Disney princesses and Star Wars.

Mostly Star Wars.

Yeah, we too were successful in keeping away Bratz (and Barney, and Teletubbies)...it was just an effort. Those gosh darn Bratz were everywhere for a while...

My son is the Star Wars Nut - daughter is Disney Princess...it's your typical gender-centric roles that people tell us shouldn't really occur if you don't force it.

There are benefits to only having boys.  Most of the terrible, horrible, deeply, deeply wrong images and ideas that society directs at boys are (at least) ones that I can secretly and atavistically find entertaining.

   "No dear, no!  You must never, ever try to decapitate your brother, even with a plastic sword.  And if you do then you should at least hold it this way, so you get a good, clean swing.  We wouldn't want your brother to suffer."

Bratz?  I just sort of cock my head like a deeply confused puppy.  I don't get it ... but then, I'm not supposed to, I guess.

Here's what I got from Bratz

Let's teach little girls it's OK to dress provacatively and act like bitches! Yay! And then we'll make Baby Bratz! and Bratz Pets!

Yeah, my son was, just yesterday, imagining something about blood spurting from something being cut up or dismembered, I can't recall.   My wife was apoplectic.

I flipped open my Monster Manual and asked him if the thing being cut up looked something like this....

My daughter has been poisoned by a fascination with Bratz dolls, too, but we've met halfway and he owns a couple of Disney Princess dolls.  Mulan and Princess Jasmine, both with fully-articulated bodies.  We've shopped for highly fashionable My Scene Barbie clothing and I've adapted my son's G.I. Joe Sigma 6 crossbows for the princesses' use.  Little girl likes the crossbows.

Thank god I don't have kids. I do have a couple of very young sisters, though... one of them gets a real kick out of monster manuals, Star Wars, and the old 2-D Doom videogames. The other's disney, despite my best efforts.

Bratz are, in fact, horrible. If it can be said that there is one legitimate cause for considering America the "great Satan", that's the one. Our country produced Bratz.

Meh. I remember grown-ups telling me that I'd be forever scarred by playing with those dreadfully ugly Masters of the Universe action figures (Come on, that guy's skull is visible! How can you sleep at night?).

Hey, I loved that scene where the one girl maps out the courtyard with all the different cliques...

the first time, when I saw it in Clueless!

(And the second time, when I saw it Mean Girls. This time, not so much.)

I don't have kids, so that obviously colors my perceptions. My wife kinda likes the Bratz, though. IMO it's a function of marketing: the product has inherent charm, but there's no appropriate audience, except for arch 20-something hipsters.

I'm so lucky...2 boys, the youngest at 1 already picks up stuff and makes "pow" noises, and my 4 year old daughter enjoys playing a d20 Fighter. The 9 year old is showing some promise in DMing.

Just wish the girl wasn't so into shoes....:rolleyes:
