Post by: flyingmice on May 27, 2008, 05:05:56 PM
It the style of MAD Magazine's "Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions"...

Thread: I just made my first Traveller character

Reply A: I went poopoo in the potty!
Reply B: I'm so proud of you!
Reply C: Did he die in chargen?

Thread: Why does the Hero System get treated badly?

Reply A: Because it's evil, and needs to be eradicated.
Reply B: GURPS Cabal. 'Nuff said.
Reply C: It's a Hero. It can take a little abuse.

Thread: New Transhuman game?

Reply A: I wasn't finished with my human games yet!
Reply B: Is there a Transhuman market yet?
Reply C: Putting a question mark after a phrase doesn't make it a sentence.

Thread: Non-standard dice question

Reply A: What's the standard dice question?
Reply B: That's a statement, not a question.
Reply C: Non-standard dice answer.

Thread: [Looking for a system] A detailed, crunchy system that isn't tactical

Reply A: Without no seams nor needlework...
Reply B: Is this one of those "Impossible Things before Breakfast?"
Reply C: Exalted!

Thread: W:tF + nWoD's Armory + nWoD's Shadows of Mexico = What?

Reply A: I give up! What?
Reply B: Three men who have never been in my kitchen?
Reply C:  White Wolf's dream consumer!

Thread: [Exalted] Social Combat: Throw me a fricking bone

Reply A: I doubt bones are used for social combat, even in Exalted.
Reply B: I doubt bones are used for fricking, even in Exalted.
Reply C: Exalted!

Maybe. But because of your hesitancy, you missed the thread where they make it against the rules to post pictures with spiders in them because a forum member stumbled upon such a post and got a'scared.

Cliff and I, there's some kind of connection, like Charles-Burrows-Charles looked at me on a Saturday and said, "That annoying pretentious ass right there...that's what we want our Postal Worker guy to be!"

And I just read the spider thread because I couldn't resist.  Seriously, I'm not one for the cross-board hijinks, but...wow.  This might replace boardgamegeek's Magic Girl vs. Candyland Girl debate as the most pathetic ever....

I think it's that the thread sounded like advice or perhaps commiseration, and some of us are pretty major arachniphobes. Yeah, I said us, although I didn't complain.

A little warning is nice, that's all. Sorta like above where I *knew* some smart-ass (as per thread title) would drop a spider picture in here. *shudder*

What about all the other phobias (http://phobialist.com/)?

Seems a bit unfair that all those people have to suffer but the ones with arachnophobia get special treatment.

Q: "I'm looking for a supers game.  What system should I use?"

1. Something old (MSH, V&V, etc.)
2. Something new (M&M, Hero, etc.)
3. Your momma

Every time I see this question, I want to fucking scream.  You'd figure they'd have stickied something addressing this by now, but noooooo.

Same thing goes for science fiction games too.

As an aside, there seems to be a whole helluva lot of "sell me on," or "please help me pick between this and that," on the boards I frequent [Note: Thankfully, not on this board].  Is that just me, or has indescision reached epidemic proportions?

No, but I think the rule is that you have to appropriately label all your threads that contain pictures of spiders so that folks who are afraid of spiders won't accidentally run across them. Either way, though...

In the forum attached to a review of Cthulhu Dark Ages, I remember one poster complained that they had pictures of spiders dotted randomly through the book (it was mood art basically), which they considered inappropriate and thoughtless.  They noted they had a spider phobia, and the inclusion of lots of spider pictures in a horror book had been unexpected (which I suppose to be fair is right, I hadn't expected spiders to be used as motif art) and thus should have been omitted (and there we parted company).

TBP has many fine features to it, and is also an arachnophobe-safe environment.
