 More realistically: A panel discussion where there are 2 or 3 defenders or advocates of traditional RPGs vs. 2 or 3 advocates/defender of Forgie/Indie-think type games.

That I might find interesting enough to actually ask for more than an hour break from jail duties that day.
If they schedule it for after 6pm I wouldn't have to worry about break time and could actually change into non-klingon, regular clothing to check out the panel.

I think you hit the nail right no the head here Thanatos.  Creating hostility.  What, exactly, would be the point of this?  Further divide this small hobby even more?  Hell I've seen to many other various hobbies go to shit because there are to many snobs like Edwards and Pundit.  They get their little group of followers and they constantly cause trouble and in the end make things a whole lot less fun for everyone except themselves.

This whole "versus" mentality is so bizarre.  There is a wide and interesting range of gaming styles and preferences.  People like different stuff.  If you know what you like, that's awesome.  If you don't, you can experiment.  This is all good.

The interviews I have read, and interviews I have watched (thanks to Sett.), Ron Edwards scares me as a person and as a gamer.

Id say Ron does have fans, but rather loyal followers akin to the cult he appears to have created.

I'm a scientist at heart and need to test things. Just saying that RE would be a fool to entertain the idea does nothing to show that his "theories" are worth defending or not. And if they are not worth defending. Then they are worthless.

You are totally wrong on that count:p . I'd love to see a proper debate between RE and the Pundit. Joking aside, I think that both of them could retain enough diplomacy for it not to degenerate into a fist fight. We might all gain a deeper insight into both the personalities of the debaters and their viewpoints.I think we'd see then the fallacy of Ron's little "theories", but there is a chance that RE may have some pertinent points to make. Not very likely I'm sure, but if we don't go ahead and do this debate, then we'll never find out will we?
