This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Larry Fast is awesome. I'm a collector of old synthesizer music, and the first couple albums from Synergy are simply fantastic.

Lawbag

Voyage 34 by Porcupine Tree

A British progressive rock band makes an ambient trippy record.

4 tracks, 20 minutes long each, 80 minutes of LSD heaven...

NYTFLYR

So many Albums, so little space...

Mona Lisa Overdrive (self titled) - a very Cyberpunkish CD
Snakefarm - Songs for my Funeral - a bunch of folk songs dealing with death in one way or another (house of the rising sun, john henry, etc) redone in a sort of triphop, very cool, very different. my mom even likes it.
KISS - Carnival of Souls last album before the face paint went back on, NOT your traditional KISS album, almost wasnt released, but a demo tape was leaked and enough people demanded it (plus the work had already been done)
Bob Seger - Back in 72 will probably never be seen on CD, but has the studio version of Turn The Page, plus Midnight Rider and others, probably one of his best LPs
Unforgiven (self titled) 80s hard rock band with a southern rock feel... 4 lead guitars!!!

Balbinus

The Dresden Dolls, either album, Brechtian cabaret at its finest.

Ya-Rayi, by Khaled, kick-ass Algerian rai music.  Actually incredibly well known in Algeria, but not so much outside obviously.

Currently I'm finding the Gotan Project, a French electronic dance/tango group very cool.  Lunatico is a good album.

Incidentally, I listen to a lot of mainstream stuff too, but this is the lesser known thread.

RPGPundit

The Gotan Project is very cool, obviously very much in fashion in Argentina and Uruguay.

Quote from: Ian AbsentiaThen let me suggest Iron & Wine with Calexico, In the Reins.  Supa-dupa.
I had a chance to see the two bands at the Cain's last year.  Chickened out at the last second.

I'll be snapping up that album next chance I get.

Quote from: TimI saw Calexico open up for Wilco in St. Louis year before last. They were tasty!
So are you a pre-YHF Wilco fan, or a post-YHF Wilco fan?  Answer now.

QuoteMy Recommendation: In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, by the Neutral Milk Hotel. The finest indie-punk album ever made.

QuoteAnyhow, a somewhat older album (i.e. early 1990s) that I would recommend would be: My Bloody Valentine, Loveless.

Well I guess there's no need for me to post in this thread then...

...other than to recommend Interpol's Turn on the Bright Lights, that is.

Are you in Tulsa?

Damn: busted. I became a Wilco fan with the YHF album. I've since bought the old stuff, too, though!

Jazz Crusaders, Live At The Lighthouse '68 & '69

On vinyl, it's 2 albums, but the CD combines them.

Lucero: absolutely brilliant alt/punk/country with a heavy Arkansas/Memphis regional flavor. The singer has a killer 3-packs-of-camel-no-filters per day voice. They get REAL drunk on stage. Check out "My Best Girl" and "The War" in particular.

Ed Kemper Trio Chaotic Math-core with bad-assed Gibson SG'ing by a bunch of lawyers that once slept on my floor.

edit: Jesus: read the topic, Tim. Lucero's best album would be "Nobody's Darlings." EK3's best album would be "How to Win a Sword Fight"

Fighterboy

Where It Is by the Beloved, when they were still a guitar band as opposed to the trippy/housy combo they became.  Some beautiful jangly guitar work, along with choruses that I still hum 20 years on.

Now if only I could find the bugger on CD!

Friend of mine used to go to conestoga religiously, but he was a big Dr. Who fan.

You can't trust that sort.

Tim: Just bustin your balls.  I only found out about wilco when I watched I Am Trying to Break Your Heart at a buddy's place.  It was a pretty good night for movies; I saw The Year Punk Broke for the first time, too.

EDIT: Obligatory Schizophrenia link.
