This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

This channel has lots of good historic info about food in the vids of the recipes. I bought his recent book.  Good stuff

Thanks for the tip.  I love watching stuff like this.

Were there non-Celtic druids?
Haven't you heard of the Druish princesses? :D

Jokes aside, I also recommend Townsends, though his stuff is primarily colonial-era U.S. cooking and living. Still, could be useful for a Renaissance setting.

Yeah, Max is a genuinely charming guy. I like his videos.

Sadly Townsend has gone kinda downhill. His videos just aren't as good or interesting anymore, at least to me. It started around the time they started their "frontier cabin" sub-series... It just felt really half-assed in places. And his "how to make 21st century food in the 1700s" videos aren't doing much better, for me. But he had a very good run.

Yes, Townsend at the beginning was very good.  He's now stretching for material.  I got Max's book.  Worth the money

Oddly, I find those 'make a 21st century meal with 18th century ingredients and techniques' rather entertaining.

My other go-to's for Youtube food channels are Steve1989 (military rations) and B. Dylan Hollis (he may be a gay twink but holy shit, he's funny when he runs up against some of the strange concoctions from the prior century).

Early American has good content.  It's usually about cooking, but sometimes other topics (like washing clothes) are covered.

Max's video on World War 2 ice cream in the US Navy is a good watch:

I liked his original video on Garum. And he's making another batch, more traditionally apparently, I'm eager for that video.

Scooter

Yes, the garum video is neat.  I have an ancient Roman cook book that I needed this info for.
