I got this over last weekend in the mail. And I watched it twice. Both times, I actually really loved it.

It's a great conclusion to the story. And the parts of it that I had been uneasy about did not cause me any offense.

I found myself satisfied with it.

I hated it.
They got pretty much every character as wrong as they possibly could without making them unrecognizable. And the High Evolutionary borders on that.

I didn't hate it, but I thought it was the weakest of the three. Still, it had its moments, and they landed the last act.

There was just too much horror movie in the middle of it, and too many characters spent the movie finding their way back to being themselves.

I own it on blu-ray, we'll see how it holds up to repeat viewings.

"Satisfied" is about right. Wasn't bad.

I rather liked it, but it suprised me with ''Star Lord Will return!'' at the end. The movie felt like it was the end of this story.

That suggests Starlord without the other Guardians?

Some sort of standalone? Assuming it ever goes so far.

My guess would be that they intend for the Guardians to continue to make cameos in other Marvel movies.

They won't be doing another standalone Guardians movie without James Gunn, and he will be doing DC stuff for the foreseeable future.

Guardians of the Galaxy 3 made $845,536,306 worldwide. Of course they are going to make another one, whether Gunn is involved or not.

Am I imagining things or was Chris Pratt/Starlord slightly deflated? He didn't seem to be as into it as much as the previous GotG movies. I liked the movie, but there seemed to be a slight lack of zeal to it. Like everyone was collecting paychecks instead of giving it their all. Including the director.

There was kind of a long road to getting this one made, what with Gunn getting cancelled and then brought back. The cast all had to come back to it after a gap of several years. Maybe that had some effect.

I didn't mean to quite say they were phoning it in, just that the characters weren't portrayed with quite as much gusto.

That cancellation happened at the peak of the cancellation wars, when the Left had managed to cancel so many people, with the cancellation of Gunn the Right was gleeful to finally get one of theirs - you could really sense the fervor. The whole cancel culture got ridiculous and hopefully has died down for now.

I hated this movie. I can make a distinction between mediums, the entire premise was clearly meant to be emotionally manipulative for the purposes of underutilizing a major character from the comics (High Evolutionary - and Adam Warlock).

That's my big problem - rendering the High Evolutionary down to being a moustache-twirling twit doing haphazard experiments in this foolish manner and to make him an animal abuser with ZERO context, given his history in the comics was abysmal. Making Adam Warlock, the actual foe of Thanos from the comics a retarded thug, was a complete waste of potential, and frankly neither of them needed to be in this movie as named characters and the movie would have ran exactly the same. We turned the movie off 20-minutes before completion because I had better things to do.

The only movie more stupid than this one was the Dungeon and Dragons movie...

Dude, Gunn/Marvel/Disney butchered the characters since the first movie, Drax is a flying Hulk created to kill Thanos, sometimes dumber than rocks others not so much and he's GREEN!

They did the same with every other GotG character.

Then they kept butchering shit in the "Grand Finale" of their first 3 phases:

Thanos isn't an eco-terrorist, he's a nihilist that wants to kill everybody to please Death, Mephisto should have shown figthing on the side of the good guys, Adam Warlock should have been there and also the Silver Surfer.

I said it years ago, the infinity stones saga can't be told in two movies, it also can't be told IMHO in live action, you'd need to go animation (either 2d or 3d) to make it right.

Just like with so many of the old mega crossover events (and Kingdom Come from DC).

TBH not being comic book reader and having only shallow knowledge of lore, I was very fine with High Evolutionary, but Adam Warlock was a waste. Not because he is butchering comic book Adam Warlock but just... because he is utterly useless and boring. HE was entertaining narcissist monster that I liked to hate.

Now of course there are other problems lore-wise within MCU, like suddenly being implied there is some pangalactic government and law, and HE being big choncho doing illegal experiments on some redneck planets, and it all was kinda off with previous visions of space and so on. MCU never managed to make extraterrestrial setting to make coherent sense.
