While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). Ed's Dream (Thats not gonna happen)

McCain is announcing his VP choice in Dayton, Ohio - correct?

Reporters, Press, & Media are staking out airports and the houses of his potential running mates so they can pick up clues to who it might be earlier than the announcement. These clues would be the usual stuff: increased activity, possible visits by the Secret Service bodyguards.

Ed's Dream (that ain't likely) : John McCain chose Dayton. Ohio because he chose Condoleeza Rice as his running mate.
Wright Patterson Air Force base is in the Dayton area, the military is pretty darn good at keeping a secret. The Air Force could fly her there without the Press noticing.
No need for the Secret Service at first - at least temporarily, her flight would be landing at a military base after all.

Its probably NOT happening this way, but its a nice thought.

Ed, when I saw the thread title somehow I knew Condaleeza Rice would be involved in your "dream"......although the V.P. thing wasn't my first guess. ;)

I was posting believable here, not the obvious.

C'mon Koltar, you and I both know he's announcing in Dayton because his secret masters in Hanger 18 want to put the whammy on the VP, and maybe the whole country via those mind-control TV waves. Sheesh....Condoleeza Rice? You gotta be kidding.

Condoleeza Rice would likely be a better pick than who he's going with. But I'm not all that happy with her after she moved from National Security Advisor to State. She's been real disappointing in that role.

My ideal currently would be Sarah Palin, but that's not going to happen.

QFT.  Condoleeza Rice would at least be an interesting pick but he will probably go with some non-descript white guy like Obama did.

Maybe Rob Portman.....nice guy but he won't give Ed fantasies about doing it in the oval office (so to speak) the way Condy would.

State seems to do that to people.

I like Sarah Palin best, too, but she's currently caught up in a personnel scandal in Alaska that's likely not bad enough that she'll lose her office over it but it's sticky enough that it's probably pushed her off of the VP list for now.

Some conservatives are hoping for Palin/Jindal or Jindal/Palin in 2012 or 2016 after they both have a little more experience to run on.

Ed, have you let the McCain camp know you are ready and willing?  We could always use a VP that knows some Klingon. ;)

It'd be worth it just to get Michael Palin into the White House.

In theory, grabbing Condoleeza Rice would be a great strategic move in terms of trying to fracture Obama's lock on the racial/gender politics lock.  In theory.

Not gonna happen. Leaving aside the rhetoric of dubious value that the republican base is racists (not that I buy it at all, but I know it would come up....)

One of McCain's weaknesses seems to be his ties (??) to the Bush White House, which Condi would only reinforce, sadly.

No one seems to think Condi is a woman (aside from Ed...) or Black.  For whatever reason.  Hell, the Boondocks guy had, years ago, a long running gag about finding Condi a man because she was so manly looking (I swear she's five feet tall if she's an inch, but no.. she's OBVIOUSLY Robert Downey Jr. In drag... or something).

So her ability to polarize the black vote and bring over feminists seems extremely limited for no real good reason at all.

Now if he could convince Colin Powell... but then, CP's been on my dream ticket for years.. and one thing that the Bush presidency never quite seemed to recover from was tossing him out on his ear.  It'd bring over a few 'identity politics' people, break ties with the Bush Prez and put a respected name next to his. Not that CP isn't without problems. As a military man he's sort of weak... too much a politician, not enough a soldier... but to the man on the street that's hardly a complaint they'd even be aware of.

A strategic move our pal Ed would love to make no doubt...

Even though I parsed the rest of your quote out for the cheap joke I happen to agree with everything you said.  I heard an alleged "short list" of VP candidates on the radio at lunch and they were all pretty uninspiring but all had the distinction of having no ties to the Bush administration.

There are several reports suggesting that Sarah Palin is McCain's pick, but there's nothing official yet.

The problems Colin Powell and Condoleeza Rice have with conservatives don't have anything to do with their race.  It has to do with the fact that neither one is really....conservative.

I think State ruined both of them myself. That department (like the CIA) tends to lean strongly Left and that bleeds over and stains its Sec. even under the best conditions.
