Series 4 premiered just a few days ago, right?  So how was it?  I'll be waiting until June or August or whenever when it starts coming out on DVD.  So in the mean time, what shall I expect?

The second episode aired yesterday, and so far I'm loving it. I'll post more later, when I'm less busy.

Episode 1 was pretty good, taking place on modern-day Earth. Some silliness, but well-written and paced, apart from some necessary back-story. Good interaction between Donna and The Doctor.

Episode 2 was very good, taking place on Volcano Day at Pompeii. I particularly liked the portrayal of a typical Pompeiian family as if they were a modern family. Interesting villains, though I'm getting tired of psychic/possession/transformation stories.

Next week, we see the Ood again.

I'm really waiting for the return UNIT and the Sontarans.

The Pompeii episode felt very much like old school Dr. Who, with cultists worshiping strange alien entities under the cover of respectability in an alien (in this case historical) culture. They get bonus points for the Spartacus gag.

The first episode was necessarily cutesy, but the baby Adipose were fantastic. I want one.

In the states, we see the first new episode (for us) this Friday night - by the ads and promos it looks like the Kylie/Christmas/Titanic episode, the regular episodes start next week on Friday.

Looks like for this spring, the Sci-Fi channell Friday night lineup will be : Sarah Jane Adventures, Doctor WHO, then new BATTLESTAR GALACTICA.

This is what a really cool FANTASY RPG should be like :

So Episode 3 (Planet of the Ood) was really good, save for a few cringe moments. I like the Ood.

Episode 4 (The Sontaran Strategem) is a two-parter. So far, it's kind of a clunker with cool bits thrown in -- like UNIT, Martha, Donna's grandfather, and Christopher Ryan (Young Ones, Absolutely Fabulous, Lord Kiv in Trial of a Time Lord) as the commanding Sontaran. The Sontarans stay true to their classic incarnations, except for some odd behavior towards the end and their chicken legs. More of the same... let's use human technology against themselves and let's use humans against themselves. Can't they come up with any new invasion ideas? Let's hope Part 2 is better.
