Title: Can you dance?
Post by: Serious Paul on April 08, 2008, 10:26:51 PM
Despite my heritage I can't dance a lick, but what about you?

Christ no. I have the rythm of a baboon trippin' on acid and suffering from rabies.

As srated in previous threads - I LOVE to dance.
However a certain unpredictable accident has left me less able to do so.

Slow dance I can still manage. Other kinds of dancing would be very iffy . Which I really miss  - because I was pretty good at mimicing Gene Kelly or Fred Astaire at times.  (IN Full Klingon outfit sometimes too!)

I can slowdance or ballroom dance in much the same way I skate; I have to relearn it every time, but once I get the hang of it my skills are serviceable.

Anything else no.

Used to be the only way I could dance with ease (and, dare I say it, rhythm) was whilst drunk.

Since I stopped drinking I'm back to flailing around like an epileptic protocol droid.

If by dance you mean presenting a life ending injury for my dancing partner, yes. I would be dangerous, ask my wife, she tells me I'm too much of brute when we dance. Maybe its all the mosh pits I was in during 90's. :D

Last time I danced was at my wedding 12 years ago and I sucked then and I'm sure I haven't improved since.

The short nswer is no.
I can, however, dance if I am enhanced with a proper cocktail of controlled substances. The last time this took place was at a Phish show in the early aughts.

(Ed. Note: Amazing = "Good God!  Sit down now, 'cause you are embarassing me!")

Yep, East Coast Swing and Lindy Hop, but I'm probably really rusty.

Oh I never enjoy dancing. I am pretty much the anti-fun. No dancing, or singing. Smiling, briefly, is okay.

Koltar, your picture makes you look like a preacher. Is your religion one of pleasurable pursuits?;)

If you'd pay attention - you'd know that I now walk with a cane. Thats the reason for the "used to be" dancer.
As for the pic - someonbe else has said it looks like I'm waiting for a beer can to be tossed to me.

Generally speaking, Anthrobot - you're not funny.

The chicks tell me I can dance so I'll have sex with them. But I suspect I'm really a fucking idiot on the dance floor.

I can mosh, or at least I used to be able to in my younger days.

As for dancing, in my book it falls under the same category as makeup, jewelry*, and crying-ok for the ladies but nothing a Real Man™ should have anything to do with.

*Class rings, wedding bands, etc are excluded from the above absurd generalization

Moshing ain't dancing, and you aren't good at it unless you come home injured and stained in vomit. Bonus points if you can't remember whose vomit.

I suppose you'd lose your sense of humour koltar, if you couldn't do the pleasurable stuff like have a little jig to a crazy tune.:p

By the way how the fuck can I tell that you walk with a cane? None of your avatars show that and you haven't mentioned it before, so no amount of zanshin will dig up that fact.

I'll have to tell those pogoing Maasai that Technomancer says they're a bunch o' poofs then. I hope that you are spear proof, or that you've oiled and loaded your Glock.:)

At last, someone as daft as me. Will you be my friend? Can I turn up unannounced at 2a.m. standing grinning at the bottom of your bed?:D

I can't dance for real. I can move my upper body to the rhythm of the music, and get some good hip action going, enough to convince a date I'm making an honest effort, but if I actually try anything that requires actual footwork (beyond a slow dance, or four-step waltz), my ankle is sure to go out on me. :(

Any other questions?  I can't sing either.

I've been told I'm a pretty good dancer.

It's usually along the lines of "Holy crap1 I didn't think you were such a good dancer!!!"

Little do they know, I didn't dance till I was 18, but I liked it so much, I went down to the clubs in Tijuana every weekend till I was 22 (usually after some lucha-libre training).

I'm suddenly realizing that my life is pretty surreal :)

Yes, and I love to dance. I do it sober, and well. Haven't started on the Latin and Ballroom yet for real skills, but we'll get round to it.

A little bit. Line dancing, a bit of two-step. Just signed up for West Coast Swing lessons starting next week.
