This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

Apparently, Bryan Singer is tapped to do a BSG movie, that will NOT be based on the godawful "remake" TV series.

Here's hoping they bring back Dirk Benedict, or at least a male Starbuck.

Spike

For you the day you found a minor error in a Post by Spike and forced him to admit it, it was the greatest day of your internet life.  For me it was... Tuesday.

For the curious: Apparently, in person, I sound exactly like the Youtube Character The Nostalgia Critic.   I have no words.

From the linked article:
QuoteBattlestar Galactica is getting the big-screen treatment. Universal Pictures has confirmed blog speculation that Bryan Singer, director of Valkyrie, will take on directing and producing duties for a BSG movie. Glen Larson, who created original series back in 1978, will produce as well. The film is not expected to be a continuation of current popular television show that's running on the SyFy network but will be a complete re-imagining of the sci-fi lore that was invented by Larson back in the 70s.
See that bolded bit right there?  That could mean that it's just as divergent as the Sci-Fi Channel series, or maybe even moreso.  Perhaps there won't even be a character named "Starbuck".

And, uh, what's the deal with the mis-spelling of "SyFy" and calling it a "network"?  Sloppy copy, or manufactured news?

Werekoala

They "rebranded" themselves SyFy because... well, I guess so they wouldn't sully the old moiker of "Science Fiction" with the crap they've been putting out for years anymore. Honestly, it hasn't been anything but a "Grade Z Made-For-Tv-Movie, wrestling, and stupid reality show" channel for 5 years or more (since about season 5 of Stargate, in fact). Yes, including that "BSG" stuff. A few good episodes sprinkled among dreck.

Right on, but I'm not optimistic.

The only thing that would give me hope is that a major feature release won't be able to get away with being such blatant and pointless misery porn.

Yeah, hopefully we can get a version which reduces all female characters to space secretaries, like they were in the original. The way God intended!

Glen Larson isn't known for his originality, so this proposed New New BSG may look more like the New BSG than people will want.

Has the project even been funded yet? What movie studio is bankrolling it?
"Meh."

Don't forget whores.  One of them was a whore, too.

Aos

I sat through a couple of chick flicks on the plane the other day- believe me, women aren't the only ones that can be reduced to sad stereotypes. I want to see a movie wherein beefy rake waiting to tamed and turned into a loving source of financial gain and emotional stability hooks up with the space secretary.

Ah yes. Was that the episode where they went to the casino planet? That's a classic. Hey, our civilization's been totally wiped out... road trip to Space Vegas baby!

Unfortunately, Space Vegas had a fatal flaw; the entire planet will blow up if exposed to any kind of open flame... where's OSHA when you need them.

Actually, that was Cassiopeia, the socialator and Starbuck's love interest.

Pundit's way is God's way :D

Frankly, why someone could like the original series is beyond me. It's one of the biggest crocks of shite ever aired on TV. First time I saw it I was like 6 or 7 and I thought it was retarded. Specially the robodog. God, how I hated that fucking dog.

She was a religious whore, for fuck's sake. It reached such peaks of retardation that it can make a wooden statue (for example, the guy playing Adama) cry blood.
