Alright, I know that this is probably a shot in the dark with the few clues that I'm going to provide. However, I hope that the combined reading might of theRPGsite.com may be able to assist me.
This is a book that I read probably 25 or so years ago when I was an early teenager. I recently was having a discussion with my father-in-law about the next species to rise to intelligence on the planet once humans go extinct, and I brought up that I think that bees are a good candidate. I suddenly remember reading a book where there was a humanoid bee character that danced and flittered around. Now, it's bugging the hell out of me that I can't remember much of anything else about the book.
So, here are the few clues that I have to assist you:
1. It's a science-fiction book.
2. I believe that the main character was some kind of ursoid. There was an anthropomorphic race of bear-like creatures, and I think that the main character was one of them.
3. A secondary character was one of the anthropomorphic bee race. The author was very descriptive in the bees movements, and likened them to a dance. I think that a part of that races philosophy revolved around the concept of 'the dance.'
4. This might even have been a short story in one of those science-fiction compilation books that were popular back then.
