This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). "Meh."

Rincewind1

The true D&D movies would be a quadrology, and every part would be completely different than the last one, using different shooting techniques and different CGI technology.

I was going to say that I hoped it would be better than the first movies, but that's such a low bar that I felt I had to aspire to a loftier level, like, say Battleship.

Justin Alexander

According to the linked article, it's being produced by the same guy who directed the previous D&D movie.

I'm laying my bets on "suck" at this point.

Always a safe bet as far as D&D movies are concerned.

ggroy

If this becomes a huge high profile disaster, hopefully it won't tarnish the D&D brand name any further.

Sacrosanct

They should just make it animated.
D&D is not an "everyone gets a ribbon" game.  If you\'re stupid, your PC will die.  If you\'re an asshole, your PC will die (probably from the other PCs).  If you\'re unlucky, your PC may die.  Point?  PC\'s die.  Get over it and roll up a new one.

Arkansan

We can only hope it goes straight to DVD and is quietly forgotten. I don't see anyone doing a good job of this.

The Traveller

I've my fingers crossed that Uwe Boll gets tapped for the job instead.
"These children are playing with dark and dangerous powers!"
"What else are you meant to do with dark and dangerous powers?"
A concise overview of GNS theory.

Quote from: Rum Cove;653721Rights Battle On ‘Dungeons & Dragons’: Warner Bros and Universal/Hasbro Tangle

I actually wouldn't mind if two different studios out out rival movies. It raises the chances of a good D&D movie coming out. I would have though that hasbro owned the film rights. If it turns out Courtney Solomon still does have the rights, he should do the honorable thing and pass them to a director that makes good movies.

Justin Alexander

That's incredible. Apparently TSR not only gave Courtney Solomon the rights to do a D&D movie, it sold him the rights in perpetuity for a song because he was a buddy of Lorraine Williams' brother.

It's like that Alien versus Predator films tagline:

"Whoever wins, we will loose."

Also, another nail in the proof that Williams treated D&D as something between retirement fund and an enterprise unworthy of her "superior" skill.
