This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

So I did a Q&A for Wicked Pacts and got a chance to play it at GenCon. My wife and I agreed that it was the best new game that we played. The setting isn't anything all that new -- sort of like Dresden Files with the serial numbers filed off -- but the system is amazingly slick. It totally hits my sweet spot between crunchy and narrative.

I'm not on the company's payroll or anything -- I'm just really, really fired up about this one. :)

Dice are purty but does this do anything that Urban Shadows doesn't?

Urban Shadows... The name rings a bell, but I can't recall anything about it. What's the scoop on that one?

It's PbtA and urban fantasy mishmash of vampires, werewolves, magic and fae. Not something that I thought I'd like but it plays very well. Kinda a WoD hearbreaker but it actually plays better than WoD.

Ah... PbtA is a deal-breaker for me. Nothing wrong with it -- just not my thing.

...or Unknown Armies? Or Mage the Ascension? Or Sorcerer?

Not wanting to diminish the game, but the KS page give little info beside "this is another urban fantasy with mages".

Fair cop. I freely admit that the concept is nothing new. For me, it's not what it does so much as how it does it. The system was just amazing.

So as to your question, it's a bit like asking why you need another fantasy game when you already have D&D.

A better mechanical system is a good reason.

Being a viable alternative for anyone who isn't into any of those other games?
