This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

So What's Everyone Playing These Days?

DMing D&D 5th Edition, Tyranny of Dragons.  It was only supposed to be a 'system test', but we're 18 sessions into it now, so it looks like we're going to finish it.

D&D 5E and Traveller. Fairly consistent for a few years. Played some WoD (Mage and Vampire) last year too.
I pretended that a picture of a toddler was representative of the Muslim Migrant population to Europe and then lied about a Private Message I sent to Pundit when I was admonished for it.  (Edited by Admin)

Quote from: RPGPundit;962575Feels as though it's been a while since we had one of these. I wanted to see, though of course theRPGsite is hardly an unbiased microsocm representative of the whole hobby, what people here were actually playing or GMing?

What system, what setting? If you're using books not nominally from that same system/setting, you can include that too.
Was playing the Dark Albion setting, using the Mongoose Traveller 1st Edition rules. But then MgT2 came out. So now my players want to give feudal technocracy a shot, since I'm always talking about speculative fiction using such settings. So Dark Albion it is then, ha! But centuries later, and with starships this time.

As a GM :
Chroniques OubliƩes (french D20 OGL game) : running a homebrewed campaign.
The Laundry, though adapting the last two books in the series may be tricky.
Tried Coriolis, not convinced by the system, to say the least.

As a player :
Yggdrasil, but the GM uses the Pavillon Noir rules.
Dungeon World, we're having a good time. I don't care much about the rules but it did influence the style of the GM for the better.

Plus a few one-shots to test my own games.

At the moment: nothing. I'm on hiatus after the birth of my son (though he's nearly 18 months old now!) and haven't gotten back into it yet. I've been coding a mod for Medieval 2: Total War in the meantime.
Currently running: Tyche\'s Favourites, a historical ACKS campaign set around Massalia in 300BC.

Our podcast site, In Sanity We Trust Productions.

Hermes Serpent

I'm playing in a Night's Black Agents game, an Ashen Stars game and a CoC 7e campaign (curse of Nineveh) together with  a few OSR games online. I'm in a playtest for D101 games new fantasy setting. Prepping to run 3 CoC 7e one shot games plus a Mythras Rome game,  a Sprawl demo game and a Laundry game for the first weekend in June at UK Games Expo. I've temporarily given up on my local group as they wanted to play nothing but hack n'slash fantasy.

I shall be running the new Runequest and probably DCC locally for FreeRPG day in June. With the release of Bree for C7 I might go back to my One Ring game in June after about 9 months break.

jadrax

I am running a 5e D&D game set in Greyhawk, almost weekly.

I'm curious about what you think about Coriolis. My players really like it, especially space combat.

Playing: 5e Curse of Strahd campaign. It's a decent campaign, well run by the GM, which is pretty much the only reason I'm enjoying it. I've never warmed to 5e and I imagine I never will.

Are we counting PbP games? If so, I'm playing a hobbit in a The One Ring campaign, a dwarf (whose stats are so low I'm sure he'd qualify for government assistance were he real) in a DCC campaign, and an Orlanthi in a HeroQuest: Glorantha campaign.

Running: Running a HeroQuest: Glorantha campaign primarily for my daughter, where she's plotting to steal the Crimson Bat. I'm getting ready to run some demos at the FLGS, including two on Free RPG Day, DCC and the new RuneQuest.

GMing a hex- and dungeon-crawl set in Qelong, using ACKS rules.  This one's run more than a year and is still going strong, which won't set any records but is decent enough in my local circle.

Strictly that's all I've got active, but I'm notebooking for a future Traveller (Mongoose 1e) game.

LouGoncey

I am playing in a friend's MgT 1e space opera campaign -- space espionage really.

I am planning on running an early 80s espionage campaign using GenreDiversions 3e. It will be a bait and switch campaign -- my players don't mind them. It will either be an Able Archer goes hot and the PCs will do the Morrow Project cryosleep or it will turn into Night' s Black Agents and the PCs will go vampire hunting...

I still have to decide.

RunningLaser

Started running Swords & Wizardry Complete.  So far, so good- giant rats are whomping the pc's and npc's:)

Quote from: S'mon;962621GMing
5e D&D weekly in Golarion Rise of the Runelords/Shattered Star, PCs are 11th-13th level
5e D&D online about twice weekly sandbox in Wilderlands of High Fantasy using the 3e version, PCs in two groups, 7th & 11th-17th level.
4e D&D Nentir Vale fortnightly, PCs 2nd level.
Classic Mentzer D&D Mystara weekly approx, PCs in main group 13th-18th level, plus a solo 9th level PC in the Hollow World. After a couple years I'm looking to rest the main group soon.

Playing a nominally weekly 4e D&D game, I think we're 3rd level now.

It's been 98% D&D for me recently; I played I think 3-4 sessions of Call of Cthulu - Achtung! Cthulu a year or so back, and around 10 sessions of Savage Worlds - War of the Dead 7 years ago.

Damn, son! Is that a game every other day? Awesome!
Running:
Dungeon Crawl Classics (influences: Elric vs. Mythos, Darkest Dungeon, Castlevania).
DCC In Space!
Star Wars with homemade ruleset (Roll&Keep type system).

Quote from: Kravell;962804I'm curious about what you think about Coriolis. My players really like it, especially space combat.

In a nutshell:
_my players felt like their characters were incompetent and forced to use the Prayer to the Icons mechanic way too often. The players felt like their character were useless and they saw the "Prayer to the Icons" as a rule loophole to patch the system.

_The action point economy in combat, too boardgamey for our group tastes.

_Space combat left them cold. It's not bad, it's just neither better or worse than any space combat system out there (From Ashen Stars to Traveller).

_the system, while perfect for Mutant Year Zero doesn't fit too well to Coriolis IMHO. Getting one success is hard, even with good skill levels.

_as someone pointed out on the Fria Ligan forums : "that sales pitch is by Fria Ligan [Arabian Nights in Space] The original authors of the campaign wrote it for the previous edition of the game, which did not (AFAIK) use that particular sales pitch.". A few djellabas and a politically correct adaptation of the Muslim religion doesn't justify the "Arabian Nights" subtitle. You may as well say that Firefly is "Monkey King in Space" because everything is written in chinese.

_I do like the setting though (a bit like a subsector in Traveller) and I'm waiting for the big campaign

I don't want to derail the thread so if you have more questions you can PM me. I already had a lengthy discussion on Google+ about this and one of the designers pitched in :

"But again, I think your reasoning is completely fair and hope you can enjoy the game with a ruleset more to your liking! I really dig Traveller as well."

So, I kept the PDFs, I'll wait for the campaign and if its any good, I'll run it with Traveller (Mgt 2e).
