This is a site for discussing roleplaying games. Have fun doing so, but there is one major rule: do not discuss political issues that aren't directly and uniquely related to the subject of the thread and about gaming. While this site is dedicated to free speech, the following will not be tolerated: devolving a thread into unrelated political discussion, sockpuppeting (using multiple and/or bogus accounts), disrupting topics without contributing to them, and posting images that could get someone fired in the workplace (an external link is OK, but clearly mark it as Not Safe For Work, or NSFW). If you receive a warning, please take it seriously and either move on to another topic or steer the discussion back to its original RPG-related theme.

So, what would you use to run a campaign inspired by the (netflix version) of Marvel's Defenders?

Also, would you have the PCs play the official characters? Or would you have them make new characters along those lines?

ICONS for me.  It's not necesarily and ideal fit for exclusively street-level heroes and there would have to be some ad-hoc restirctions to powers and ranks at character generation, but I know, it works well and I think that counts for a lot.

Definitely go for original characters. I could try pitching the Defender as the inspiration but I'm pretty once the game start it would mutate in its own thing and find its own tone and flavour. If I were to pitch a Defenders inspired game it will somehow turn into Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, a Turtles inspired game will somehow turn into Agents of Shield, a Shield game would evolve into The Defender. That's just how gaming goes.
New! Cyberblues City - like cyberpunk, only more mellow. Free, fully illustrated roleplaying game based on the Fudge system
Bounty Hunters of the Atomic Wastelands, a post-apocalyptic western game based on Fate. It\'s simple, it\'s free and it\'s in colour!

Supers! Revised. Works pretty well for street level.

Heroes Unlimited because at least combat would be exciting and you'd get some funky lower-powered vigilante types, which I understand the new Defenders are. You could certainly do Daredevil and Power Man & Iron Fist from the old comics with HU, maybe give Iron Fist some stuff from Ninjas & Superspies.

Haven't seen the actual TV show.

Omega

TSR's Marvel Superheroes.

estar

Champions. However the secret sauce is how you set up the campaign. For the most part  the rules are irrelevant except as a preference.

Nexus

Champions, natch. But practically any Supers games could probably handle it. Campaign set up, mood and atmosphere would be key.

"The salient fact of American politics is that there are fifty to seventy million voters each of whom will volunteer to live, with his family, in a cardboard box under an overpass, and cook sparrows on an old curtain rod, if someone would only guarantee that the black, gay, Hispanic, liberal, whatever, in the next box over doesn't even have a curtain rod, or a sparrow to put on it."

Mutants and Masterminds 3e (because I know it well) or ICONs.

Whatever my players want, I'm flexible.  Also, the street-level vigilante tone is right up my wheelhouse, as the saying gets mangled, so I'm on board with the idea.

My own Triumphant! - I say that because I'm playing in in and/or running 3 face-to-face games and one pbp game using it.

If I wasn't going to use my own system, I'd probably give V&V or BASH! a go.

Coffee Zombie

Heroes Unlimited, to hit that nice street style, and because I keep coming back to that system. TSR's Advanced Marvel Super Heroes would be appropriate as well.

I was going to add this one, too.:-) It's nice and swingy, so you get some exciting fights.

M&M 3e

I'm running a PL 10 Avenger/JLA/Fantastic Four type of game set in Emerald City, but I am finding I am bypassing a lot of (good) setting material because it seems like it is geared more towards a street-level supers game.

This is the first M&M campaign I've GMed. It's been a good run and a good place to start the game, but I feel like starting at a "street level" would open up more possibilities.
The Secret Volcano Base: my intermittently updated RPG blog.

Running: Pathfinder Scarred Lands, Mutants & Masterminds, Masks, Starfinder, Bulldogs!
Playing: Sigh. Nothing.
Planning: Some Cyberpunk thing, system TBD.
